Introduction

General

Home System

  • Quadrant: Beta
  • Proper Name: Leron System

Home World

  • Proper Name: Leron IV
  • Notes: Leron IV always lies in the shadow of Leron II
  • Climate: Cold

Leron IV is the homeworld, but due to overpopulation resources are rare and living conditions are difficult.

In mid 2394 during the Constitution mission Peacemakers peace talks were held between the Linaran and Hinji heads of government. During this peace, the heads of states came to the agreement to share Leron II between the Hinji and Linaran to counter overpopulation and lack of resources on their home planets. Portions of the inhabitants have begun to settle over Leron II. To deal with the different requirements, the Hinji live above ground, the Linarans below ground.

Physiology

Linara live in a dark planet without sunlight, so they have developed a high sensitivity to any kind of light. Their skin and hair varies from white to gray shades, their eyes are either light blue, white or light red. Off planet and in front of outsiders, they are never without protection, meaning they wear long robes, gloves, head-scarfs/hoods and veils at all times. As well as seeing the visual spectrum they can see in infra-red.[1]

Psychology

Like other species they have a complex psychology, including mental illnesses, temper and the like.

ESP (Telepathy, Empathy etc)

Linara are not telepathic or empathic.

Relation to the Federation

Linara has just recently joined the Federation.

Cultures

The Linara have various cultural groups. Their lifestyles differ, the thing they have in common is living in the dark. Some of the known groups are:

  • Tesyyr live in swamps, the things they eat are caught in the depths of the waters, their houses are made from what they scavenge there, built on stilts. They dress in a different way as well, the leathers of the swamp creatures and hanging vines and a fabric called Kunta.
  • Zunar utilize the heights of the trees, living in the crowns, harvesting from the trees and hunting animals of the sky. They make their fabric from certain fibers of a plant decorate it with feathers and leaves.
  • Poran live in the higher regions of the mountains in the cold
  • Retir live in the caves and on rocky walls in lower parts of said mountains
  • Sutar live in cities. They are what most people know as Linara. Living in houses of strong wood or stone, wearing robes and concealing robes off planet. They are also those that focus on technological advancements and energy solutions.

Government

Linarans have a unified Government with representatives of each cultural group. They joined the Federation in early 2394.

Technology

They are a warp capable species with their own discoveries and inventions in the technological sector. Unlike most planets that get their light and energy from their suns radiation, the Linaran planet gets its energy from geothermal activity caused by tidal flexing due to it’s linked orbit with Leron II. They have developed unique technologies to use this thermal energy to produce power and to redirect lava flows to create farmland and to give them access to important resources that are rare on their planet.[2]

With limited resources they started to collect dis-guarded eggs shells of energy creatures living in the Lembatta Cluster to use as power sources. Minister Ohain ordered a mission to try to collect an egg before hatching [3].

As the energy creatures are now believed to be sentient, the Linarans are now working with the Federation to try to communicate with the creature to negotiate the use of their dis-guarded egg shells.[4]

Flora & Fauna

As their planet is sunless, there are very few leaves or other plants that would normally grow using chlorophyll. Many of the few existing plants either are fluorescent to some degree or completely dark.

Most grown vegetables are tubers and roots and fungi, which as a matter of course, were staples of their peoples' diets. Ohan is a plant only to be found on Leron IV.

Isvicre Maties is another plant only growing on Leron IV. [5]

Another plant is called Guryen. It has a thick stem with side 'branches' and leaves with a wavy shape. The leaves were of a dark shade of purple, with glowing pink veins and a slightly less but still glowing green and blue pattern of dots and stripes. They only grow in a few areas and that means that they are pretty hard to find. But when someone finds them it is believed to bring them good luck. [6]

The Kojima tree is a symbiotic species. One half cannot live without the other. It symbolizes the tree of lovers, friendship and unity. It is tradition to gift this tree after successful negotiations or bonding rituals. The Tree is about two meters high with a trunk that is two trunks curled around each other. One is of a dark blue the other of a dark grayish green. The leaves are of a dark shade that reminded of oil, random streaks of different colors ran through the trunk and leaves.
A tree of this kind was gifted to the Constitution by Sotesa Vehau, the Linara Head of Government as a gesture of gratitude for hosting peace talks with the Hinji in 2394. [7]

Recreation

Ohan

Ohan leaves are special, special even more so than their rarity due to the sunless environment. They can bring euphoria and calm in equal measures to people who often felt little enough of either in recent times. The leaves are placed on the tongue and the feeling is near-instantaneous. The taste of the leave is bitter. Due to its rarity, it is expensive to get hold of them. They only grow on Leron IV. [8]

Ohan is a plant native to Leron IV of the Leron System. This psychoactive drug is used recreationally among the Linara, who chew ohan leaves to release the leaf’s empathogenic properties. Psychoactive properties induce increased empathy, euphoria, and heightened sensations. The ohan leaves produce adverse effects when eaten whole and metabolized, even at low dosages. Symptoms include hyperthermia, dehydration, tachycardia and related illnesses. Long term effects could include cognitive impairment and brain lesions. Ohan leaves have a mild bitter taste when chewed, comparable to edible, non-poisonous plant products widely available.[9]

Clothing

Different Veil colours, patterns and designs are fashion-statements. In contrast to the robes worn. Robes serve both as an expression of one's individuality, and also status. It can't be seen in the pleats and folds of the robes.

Communication

While Linarans communicate through words, their body language has adapted to their circumstance. They had become physically expressive with their emotions as a matter of necessity after they started veiling their faces.

Body language/Expressions

  • A conspiratory motion, akin to a pointed glance or a devilish smirk is expressed by a head-weave coupled with a shrugging motion of his shoulders. [8]
  • Laughter is expressed by a waggle of the head, canting it from left to right several times quickly.
  • A smile is signaled with a headwaggle that is similar to laughter, but less pointed and more understated

Language

  • Fear - Pa'drasyi
  • without, no, not present, to not have - Ley'ra
  • animal doctor/veterinarian - Gen'rya
