Title: Taking Command

((Sickbay, USS Challenger))

Sickbay seemed different as she walked through the double doors, and it wasn't simply because it contained a few more people than it did when the Challenger crew had been on shore leave. It was friendlier now that no one would be immediately looking over her shoulder and asking her what she was doing.

Still, she hesitated in front of the CMO's office before entering. Brenna had no intention of making this officer her own -- it wasn't. But the report on the Admiral's death was only accessible inside, and she needed a secluded place to look it over.

Entering the office, Brenna was relieved to find that there were no personal touches to the room that would make it appear to belong to anyone in particular. Slipping behind the desk, she tapped up the file and began to look it over.

There was a knock at the open door, as the nurse Commander Turner had been talking to earlier stuck her head in. Brenna tried, really tried to remember her name.

Bothnet: Doctor Parker? I heard you've been put in charge of our operation down here.

Parker:  ::wondering why the nurse was asking her something she obviously already knew:: Yes.

Bothnet:  ::smiling slightly:: I thought you might want to make it official?

Parker:  ::furrowing her brow:: What do you mean?

Bothnet: I mean, the staff might want to know that you're the person to come to should anything be wrong.

Parker: Oh.  ::That made sense, she supposed.:: Well, would you mind telling them for me?

The older woman smiled.

Bothnet: I think that's something you should do yourself. Make them see that you're open to listening to them.

Brenna sighed, but seeing that Toni had placed her opinions so high on her own chart, she figured the nurse was probably right. She rose and walked out of the office. This seemed to be the cue everyone had been waiting for, as they stopped what they were doing and fell silent, turning to look at her.

Parker:  ::Putting her hands behind her back and rocking back on her heels:: I'm Doctor Brenna Parker...I'm in charge. ::she left out the 'for now' that was undoubtedly echoing in everyone's heads:: If you have a problem, then I expect you to solve it. I have no use for useless people. If you have a big problem, then I would be glad to help. But don't bother me with the trivial.

Bothnet:  ::in an undertone:: That wasn't exactly what I had in mind.

Parker:  ::muttering back:: Okay.... ::She put on a bright smile and spoke to the assembled again.:: However, my door is always open.

Bothnet:  ::still muttering, with a smile on her face:: Much better.

Parker:  ::half shrugging as she returned behind the desk:: Well, I won't take too much credit for that. I'd close the door, if this office had one.  ::She began to read the autopsy report afresh.::

The nurse looked at her motherly. oO You've got a long way to go, little one. Oo
