TRC-600A "Tribracer"

First developed on board the USS Chin'toka with the help of Amuro McKnight and several engineering consultants throughout both the ship and Starfleet, the Tribracer was approved for general Starfleet use on away missions in early 2399.

Essentially an alternate form factor that combines the functionality of a TR-600 Tricorder, a combadge, and a flashlight in one wrist-mounted device, the Tribracer is a stylistic preference, to be chosen by individual away team members if approved by their Commanding Officer.

Features

  • Functions of a tricorder, commbadge, and a handheld light in one wearable device.
  • Voice-activated to respond only to authorized voice patterns (its assigned wearer, plus other members of Starfleet or authorized members of the wearer’s crew. This feature is also present in standard combadges and Tricorders.
  • 3D holographic display of tricorder’s scan results. This feature is also present in standard Tricorders.
  • Users may feel free to integrate very small features that will not replace the functionality of any other devices not specified here, such as ‘apps’ that tell you what time it is in any time zone, on any planet in Federation space, or a live news feed (only functional with access to a subspace network). These features must not emulate those carried out by other devices, such as tool kits or weapons.
  • All features should be considered equal to those of a standard Tricorder and Combadge, but combined into one unit. The bracer’s functionality is just as capable of being compromised as standard versions of these tools.
  • Form factor is that of a wearable wrist device, such as the Star Trek: A Motion Picture wrist communicators (only larger, to account for the expanded functionality). Unlike similar devices in Mass Effect or other franchises, it is an easily spotted physical object, and will be removed in any scenario which sees Officers stripped of their equipment. Talk to your Captain ahead of time if you have a fun story idea as to why this wouldn’t have been the case in a particular instance.

    • Electromagnetic Spectrum detection:
      • Sensors capable of gamma, xray, microwave, and radio.
      • Visual camera capable of capturing UV, visible, & infrared.
    • Holographic Recorder/Projector

Advantages

  • Three in one wearable toolkit.
  • Longer battery life due to more room for a larger Sarium Krellide power cell than the one stored in standard Tricorders or Combadges.
  • Leaves hands free for other tasks.

Disadvantages

  • Increased complexity and thus more prone to breakage/shorting out.
  • Lack of versatility in separating the three components into smaller pieces .
  • Bulky and difficult to conceal. Will be spotted easily during even a cursory inspection.
  • Due to the bracer’s current complexity, weapon storage, manufacturing of holographic weapons, or other features would overload the bracer and potentially harm the wearer.
