FROM STARBASE 118

The Admiral is requesting all officers to begin the nomination process for our next awards ceremony. Please submit all nominations to Admiral Wolf. He can also supply you with a list of award categories.

PROMOTIONS

Congratulations to the following officers for their promotions.

  • Sierra Randor, Captain, Star Base 118
  • Alexander Wilkens, Commander, USS Centris

CURRENT SIM PLOTS

STAR BASE 118

Recently, Star Base 118 has had the privilege of seeing a new captain installed. Captain Sierra Randor promises to be a important new force in the Federation's troup of Commanding Officers.

In more mundane news, the Starbase has recently received a distress signal from a nearby system. However station personnel have been unable to locate the source of the signal. Further investigation is imminent.

USS CENTRIS

The Centris is currently engaged in a advanced holo-training exercise on Star Base 118. The exercise is intended to test our abilities in first contact situations, and the R & R we can catch between sessions is helping to rejuvenate us.

USS FREEDOM-A

Since the last Reporter, the Freedom-A has returned to normal space. In it's recent contact with the Delarosians, the Freedom and her crew were caught in-between dimensions in a sort of 'jello universe'.

During this mission, the Freedom suffered heavy damage to her engineering section where the warp drive was severely damaged and the hull was breached over three decks. On it's re-entry into normal space from the jello universe, it came back into sector 001. More specifically, it was caught in Earth's gravitational pull. With no warp drive and impulse engines unable to compensate, the Freedom-A crash-landed in San Francisco Bay.

Two days after the crash, there was an explosion at Starfleet headquarters where they were entertaining a delegation from Rovar -- a planet hoping to join the Federation. The ship, since then, has been hauled out of the bay and taken to Mars for refitting and repairs. The crew are all on extended leave and there is implications that some member(s) of the Freedom crew may have been involved in the explosion.

USS RANGER -A

The Ranger is currently on hiatus.

INTERVIEW

This month I am interviewing Lieutenant Deporey, a Terran/Angosian male stationed onboard the USS Ranger-A as her Chief Engineer.

Why did you choose a career in StarFleet?

I was born and raised on Risa 7. A vacation planet. My Parents are independently wealthy. I was very spoiled. I got into a lot of trouble. Heckling the tourists. My father decided to disown me until I could support my self respectively. So I decided to try to make him proud. The day before I shipped to Earth he fell off a cliff. And has been unretrievably in a coma ever since. My dedication is born of guilt and flourishes in pride of my accomplishments.

That's terrible, Lieutenant. Would you say you have come to peace with this inauspicious beginning?

Yes I believe so. After some intense missions and some promotions I believe my father would be proud. The rest of my family is in full support. I even have a cousin working on the Centris. His name is Erickson.

Why did you choose engineering?

I had already had a technical background from some odd jobs I worked at Risa 7 before coming to Starfleet. Also I'm a terrible shot with a phaser. ::Grins sheapishly:: I have a hard time killing people. I would only do it if it was absolutely necessary. The only other position for me would be Science.

So, you don't see yourself moving over to command anytime?

Really Command of Engineering is all I need. Sure higher ranks have their privileges. But for now tinkering is more apealing than the stress of the responsibility of the lives of everyone from every decision. Maybe long in the future I will take the reins of an emergency mercy supply ship.

And what do you do when you're not tinkering?

If I have time (which is rare) I usually like to fraternize with the rest of the off duty crew. Usually in the lounges. Otherwise I'm busy on some gadgets or just working till I'm too tired to work.

What's been your greatest challenge so far?

I would say my greatest challenge so far would be my inventions. I try to make things more comfortable on a starship. The hard part comes in working the bugs out of my inventions. Mostly they blow up or cover me in goo. Once in a while they actually work. And when they work they usually get ruled out due to a more efficient one already invented by a scientific team.

A man committed to his work. Anything else you would like to add?

Thank you. :: Blushing :: Just one more thing. For any one reading this article. As I have just learned a Human told me recently while trying to get me to play some hologames while I was going to a project. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Meaning get involved with your other crewmembers and relax. Even if that relaxation is an exciting game of Dam Jat.

Thank you, Anton Deporey, for your time.

OUT OF CHARACTER

This last month has been a busy time for several members of the UFOP Command group. We are proud to introduce a newly designed home page for the UFOP, located at

http://www.iaw.com/~captjeff/ufop

The home page emulates the Central Computer on Star Base 118. It is a central storage facility and information database for everything that you may need to know about SIMming with the UFOP. I encourage everybody to check out our new site. You will find:

  • Personnel Listings
  • Crew Bios
  • Vessel Stats
  • The "Reporter"
  • Links to other Star Trek sites

We are currently attempting to link this site in as many places as possible on the net. Therefore, we would appreciate any crew members with Home Pages to create a link to http://www.iaw.com/~captjeff/ufop with an appropriate byline. If you do create this link, drop a line to Captain Pelletier and let him know your home page address. In turn, he will add you to the UFOP Links list.

The site is also being used to recruit new members. It includes a tour of the Star Base and information on how to join. If you have friends wanting to know more about us before joining, make sure you pass on our home page address. We have an easy-to-use form available for them to fill out that will register them as a new recruit. All of this is located under the "Join Us" button of the LCARS display.

If you have any comments on the site, make sure you fill in the form located under the "Contact Us" button of the LCARS display. We appreciate any feedback you may have and will consider everything sent to us.

Admiral Wolf would also like to remind everyone that we DO have a fantasy branch now. It will be SIMming through e-mail, and it is played on a planet called "Xanthia", where the forces of Good, Evil, and Entropy control most everything. We're recruiting just about any kind of character now, including standard townspeople, to people who wish to be knights (and the like). Contact me, or Alis Hege for more information!
