The Threans are a canine, humanoid, race.
Encounter log
The Threan's launched their first warp-capable ship that was sent on a journey to discover possible resources and life on other worlds. While their system and planet fell within Federation space they are in a remote area and are very close to the Orion syndicate territorial line. Accidentally crossing that line the Threan's made contact with the Orion slavers who proceeded to capture and sell the crew and its ship. After that, the Orions set into motion a well hidden and long-running war with the Threan people. The Orions would often invade the cities and villages of Threa'ya as well as capture ships patrolling their local space and enslave as many people as they could. This lasted for nearly ten years before the Threans were able to build another warp capable ship which they sent on a mission to find a new home or to find help. Their hopes were answered when on stardate 239501.12 their second ship made first contact with a Starfleet vessel and its crew was able to explain their situation to the Federation. The Federation responded with aid and defensive postings by nearby Starfleet ships and bases. In the years since the Orions were chased away from Threan space the race has enjoyed plentiful trade and peace. While they have applied for admittance into the Federation the Threans have not yet been formally accepted.
Planet of Origin
Threa'ya. This planet is 6.4 times smaller than Earth and its gravity is about 0.86% weaker than that of Earth's. A single day lasts 22.04 hours and a year lasts 212 days. The planet is made up of 2 continents, which make up 73% of the planet's landmass which covers 52.3% of the planet's surface. The plant life on this planet is comprised mostly of different types of grass, but they could be compared to flowers, as they come in almost every color and they have incredible scents. Trees and larger shrubs make up most of the higher layers, but flowers and fungi are rare. While the surface may have gorgeous forests the underwater world also has its fair share of forests. Mostly in the form of long, grass-like water plants, but there are a few places in this planet's sea's where actual underwater forests grow. The species in these forests are uniquely evolved trees, but they work in similar ways as surface species. Roots keep them in place, while a trunk helps carry the nutrients to every part of its body. At the top, the branch's often reach above the surface and sprout various leaves and flora, giving the water a mystical feel.
Description
Threans are humanoid but only have four digits on their hands and toes, this means they have three fingers and a thumb instead of four and a thumb as most humanoids do. They have long ears and short to medium length snouts. Their fur and hair color commonly come in shades of red, orange, brown, grey, and black. Their eyes are often yellow, orange, green and light grey. Most have two fangs that are so long they stick out even when the mouth is closed.
They are somewhat of a dwarf race standing on average around 5'ft 0" inches with females commonly around 4'ft 10" inches and males reaching as tall as 5'ft 5" inches. Due to their features coming across as adorable and innocent Threans are often mistaken as children of other physically similar races such as the Catians.
Threans can reach running and sprinting speeds and have reflexes only matched by some of the agilest creatures in the galaxy. Their physical strength is no greater than the average Human equivalent of height and weight.
Although a relatively peaceful people the Threan's are a very proud warrior race, having developed several forms of martial arts. And although not as warlike as the Human's in their past the Threans have plenty of bloody history having only cast aside war and unified as a species one hundred years prior to the Orion invasion.
History
While their documented history can only be traced back to around eight thousand years ago, there is sufficient archeological evidence that their race evolved on their planet and was among the first being to exist on their planet. Their world has been lucky in that it has only seen events such as the ice age twice in the entire length of time that life has existed on it. The first event was the splitting of their supercontinent into two major land masses that remained connected in the northern region. The second major event of this nature was a short ice age caused by sudden volcanic activity filling the air with thick smoke and gas. The ice age event came close to wiping out the Threans ancestors but enough of the species survived to see clear sky's and were able to keep their race going. On both of these occasions, the Threan ancestors were able to survive through a variety of creative and clever means and their race avoided extinction both times though quite narrowly in the ice age.
Culture
Threans are a loose matriarchal styled society. This is really only represented in their family cast system and by the ruling force which is built of a council of eight female leaders with an empress serving as leader of the military. The Empress in this system has little more power than a general would in other systems, but she is also viewed as a sort of divine presence as she is blessed by their god of war and peace. It is believed that no matter how hard the battle is, so long as the empress is alive their army will eventually prevail.
- Religion: Threans have a small and loosely practiced religious system. In their religion, there are only three gods.
- Tospa Mulli- the goddess of life and love, it is believed that Tospa found their world when it was young and used her powers to bring about all the life now found there.
- Gemonda Doma- The god of chaos and order, it is believed that the god of chaos and order is in constant conflict and it this conflict that causes disastrous events and miracles to occur all over the universe.
- Sigitu Rota- The goddess of war and peace, it is believed that Sigitu is the youngest goddess and is responsible for gifting knowledge to the Threan people.
Threan Language/Names
Threans in their entire history, which can be traced back by scroll's and books of history to around eight thousand years ago, have only developed six different languages. The Threan people currently speak a language they refer to as Famana. It is a mixture of three previous languages that had spawned off of two ancient languages before them. This language is quite similar to the Terran language English in its development and use. Like the English language, it too has a written language built of twenty-six characters, but they have only one punctuation mark which is used as the 'Period' is used in English.
Names
The Threan's naming system uses only two names. The first name represents the individual while the second name represents their family.
- Male Threan names often start with 'Tu', 'Sa', 'Ge', and 'Fo'.
- Female Threan names often begin with 'Si', 'To', 'GI', 'Su', and 'Fi'.
