The '''USS 'Oumuamua''' is a [[Luna_class|''Luna''-class]] long-range exploratory starship in service with the Federation Starfleet. The ship was named after the first object detected outside our solar system and was commissioned in 2387. Translated from the native tongue, 'Oumuamua means "First Distant Messenger".

As of 2400, it is the flagship of [[Ossa V'Airu|Commodore Ossa V'Airu]], who serves as its Commanding Officer. ''<nowiki/>'Oumuamua'' is the lead starship in the newly created Gamma Flotilla Expeditionary Task Force, a small fleet assigned to explore and investigate an area of the distant Gamma Quadrant, specifically the region of space once controlled by The Dominion. Some former members have allied to form the United Dominion of Planets, modelled after the Federation.


The vessel's primary mission profile is one of scientific inquiry and diplomacy. 'Oumuamua boasts state-of-the-art sensor nets and data-collection grids in the mission pod suspended above the primary hull.

In addition, the ''<nowiki/>'Oumuamua'' sports enhanced defensive and offensive systems, designed to allow it to engage in prolonged tactical and surgical strike missions should there be a need, such as in case of contact with remnants of The Dominion.

The ''‘Oumuamua'' was one of the third production run of the ''Luna'' class, all of which were launched in 2386 or 2387 as one of the new backbones of the post-Dominion War Starfleet. ''Luna'' class starships are the top of the line in Starfleet's scientific and exploratory pursuits, and each features a sensor pod just above the back of the saucer section that comprises two decks with advanced sensor nets and data collection grids.  


The ''‘Oumuamua'' is named for the first detected interstellar object that moved through the Sol system. That ''‘Oumuamua'' was in turn named from Hawai’ian, roughly translated as “first distant messenger.”
The ship is capable of carrying out humanitarian missions whenever needed. In large-scale evacuations, it can carry a maximum complement of 6,000.

After extended service in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, the ''‘Oumuamua'' has been reassigned to Project Nashira, Starfleet’s extended mission to survey the Gamma Quadrant, specifically the Dominion’s former sphere of influence. The project is named for the ship that inaugurated that mission, and the ''‘Oumuamua'' is one of a handful of ships on extended assignment to supplement the {{USS|Nashira}}.


The ''‘Oumuamua''’s  proposed mission profile included primarily diplomatic and scientific missions, though its crew was  instructed to provide humanitarian aid when requested and when specific missions call for such a response. The ''‘Oumuamua''’s defensive and offensive capabilities also mean that it will be able to handle itself against aggressors. Rumors upon the ''‘Oumuamua''’s launch suggested that there were still small but militant pockets of Dominion activity, and the ''‘Oumuamua'' had increased maneuverability and durability in part to counter Jem’Hadar offensive capabilities, in ways that were developed in Starfleet fleetyards during the war but ultimately not incorporated into most ships after the war’s end.

In 2399, under the command of [[Ossa V'Airu]] and in [[Ragnarok (USS Thor)|a mission that ultimately became a rescue]] of the {{USS|Thor}}, the ''‘Oumuamua'' first encountered the [[United Dominion of Planets]], a would-be confederation of former [[Dominion]] powers and new Gamma Quadrant species that hoped to emulate the structure of the Federation. As a result, the ''‘Oumuamua''’s mission profile was updated to include ongoing monitoring and liaising with the United Dominion of Planets.
