As a young teenager, Emi studied emotional control and meditation on Vulcan. One of Emi's personal goals in Starfleet is to help develop new medicines based on her research exploring other worlds. She was fascinated with what exobotany could do for the medical community.
Scotty was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Earth to a retired Starfleet engineer and civilian doctor. From a young age, Scotty wanted to follow in his father's footsteps and become a Chief Engineer on a starship. He decided to major in Electrical Engineering before joining Starfleet Academy, where he further studied Propulsion Systems. Scotty is a quick thinker and loves getting to know other people. Callistra and her twin sister were raised by their mother. As a single parent, she taught them to rely on themselves and each other before she passed away when they were 16. They never knew their father since he died just before they were born. The twins worked hard to make a better life for themselves as their mother had wished, Visona becoming a medical doctor while Callistra became a psychiatrist. Callistra went into private practice at first. But after she was called in to consult with a number of Starfleet veterans, she decided she could do more on the front lines than from a seat on Earth.
Kivik was born in 2366 on the planet’s southernmost continent, Th’orem. In 2368, when Kivik was only two, the USS Enterprise visited J’naii and the Federation found themselves embroiled in a scandalous incident involving a J’naii pilot<ref>https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/The_Outcast_(episode)</ref>. Kivik was always fascinated by the tale of the visiting aliens, their strange ‘gendered’ society, and how the J’naii responded to the incident. Once Kivik had completed nir education, ne arranged to come aboard a Starfleet Science Vessel as a civilian consultant - eventually travelling to Federation space and applying to the Starfleet Academy.
