Born in 2360 to Archimedes, a Systems Engineer for the local civic planning department, and Natasha, a Historian specialising in military history, Keres had a fairly easy young life. She never did fantastically well at school, but was in no way an underachiever either. While growing up she gained somewhat of a fascination on early projectile weapons, particularly cannons. After graduating high-school with decent to mid-high grades, she decided to enrol in Starfleet Academy with a major in Tactical and a Minor in Engineering.
