SIM:Della Vetri - Just getting a feel for the old girl...

((Starbase 118, Airlock 322))

With a duffel bag over her shoulder, Della strode down the corridor toward the pair of security guards stationed at the end. As one of then motioned her to stop, she did so, presenting them with the padd containing her transfer orders - an act that would have gone a lot smoother if the bag hadn't chosen that moment to try and slide to the ground. Noticing the pair trying not to smile, she fixed them with a mock glare.

Vetri: You guys try moving house twice in a month. It's not as easy as it seems you know.

Grinning, she took the padd back from the guard, and settled the bag more firmly.

Vetri: Thanks, guys.

Moving through the airlock proper, she was almost immediately struck by a faint sense of...power. Dormant for now, but awakening from it's slumber like a Taurian Grizzly as the snows began to melt. crewmen bustled along the corridors as she headed towards the quarters that had been assigned to her, exchanging nods, smiles and a few words of greeting as she went.

Reaching the door to her quarters, she stepped through as it opened, and took a brief look around the almost sterile interior.

oO Starfleet standard decoration, I see. Meh. Oo

With an almost smooth motion, she shrugged her bag onto the bed, and then caught a glimpse of the chronometer on the wall, and wondered for a moment exactly what Commander Assanti's definition of "immediately" was. Deciding to err on the side of caution, she began to head out.

She soon found herself walking the corridors almost at random, taking in the feel of the ship and it's crew as she considered the roster she'd looked up as she was packing the few items she'd brought along. Wentworth, Karik and Alexander, she'd worked with on the recent, if mysterious, mission with the Fleet Captain, but the rest she didn't think she'd ever even met.

oO Welcome to Starfleet - every day a new experience. Unless it kills you. Oo

She shook her head at that thought.

oO I'm not old enough for that kind of cynicism. You lot don't count. Me . Della. And now I'm on the verge of arguing with myself. Oo

Her sudden laugh made a crewman who looked even younger than she felt jump with surprise, and she quickly reassured him before stepping into a turbolift.

Vetri: May as well get to this stage of the tour... Deck one.

Della had almost braced herself for the long transit she had almost become used to on the starbase when the lift doors slid smoothly open again, revealing the clean lines of the bridge. Stepping out of the lift, she barely registered the presence of the few crewmen around, running their last checks before launch.

oO Oh. Wow. Oo

She'd seen pictures, even crewed in simulations, but this was something else entirely - standing in the nerve centre of one of the greatest technological achievements of the Federation - a starship.

Moving almost on autopilot, she gently lowered herself into the seat immediately to the left of the captain's chair, and let her head fall back as her eyes slid closed and her mind focused. Within seconds, the concentration she was directing inward seemed to explode outwards, and she was adrift in the void, scattered points of light hanging in space around her.

oO That mass there - the starbase. Oo

Almost instinctively, her perception recoiled from such a concentrated source of emotion.

oO This scattering here...the crew of the ship. My new home. My responsibility. And that one... so close, so- Oo

Assanti: Catching up on some shut eye, Ensign?

Snapping back to awareness, Della jerked to her feet, spinning to face the ship's CO, straightening to attention as she did do.

Vetri: No, ma'am. Just trying to get, that is, I thought...

oO Forget it, you are NOT getting out of this with dignity intact. Oo

Vetri: Ensign Della Vetri, reporting for duty, ma'am.

Assanti: ::giving a knowing smile to the young lady and holding out her hand.:: Greetings, Ensign Vetri. If I'm not mistaken, you must be my new Counselor?
