History

The Rylans are perhaps one of the oldest species in the Par'tha Expanse and this is supported by records and documents that can be dated back almost 40,000 years. For the most part, evolution on their homeworld proceeded peacefully and naturally. The pursuit of knowledge and beauty was a driving force behind their civilization. They excelled in the realms of artistic endeavors, philosophy, architecture, and science.

It was only once they reached to the stars roughly 6,000 years ago that discord and unrest reached their civilization, because it was then that they encountered the Caraadians. This was during the Dynastic Era, and Kaen Tan was uniting the Houses. The Rylan world of Elbannon II was conquered and placed under the rule of House Lanaxa.

Over the course of time, however, the Rylans became less subservient and more on equal footing. Due to their location, they have never really been involved with the politics of the Expanse. Although they keep mostly to themselves, they are a rare sight within the Par'tha Expanse from time to time. The Rylans are much more prone to spend their time in the Freeworlds Region.

Government

While they are allowed a great deal of independence this does not extend to their government which is selected and assigned by the Caraadians. This governorship has allowed the Rylans to put together a council of advisors to assist and make recommendations. However there is no mistaking the fact that the final decision on any subject regarding them and their world comes from the governor who has been selected by House Lanaxa

Description

Physically, Rylans are virtually identical to Humans. They are mammals that stand about 5’4” to 6’2” tall. Like most other humanoid species they have four limbs (two legs, two arms). Their skin color ranges from pinkish to dark brown, with many variations in between. Distinguishing them from Humans is the bare tops of their heads, their hair only appearing around the sides and back. Hair color ranges from white to silver, even in the youngest Rylans.

Physiology

As with most intelligent humanoid species they have a very complex system with specialized organs, and unique hormones, chemicals and enzymes. They are typical humanoids with most of the physical, mental and biological medical problems that seem to plague most humanoids.

Psychology

As with most intelligent humanoid species there are those within their population that sometimes become inflicted and as a result suffer from a number of mental illnesses, phobias and conditions. Fortunately for them the Rylans have an exceptional medical program and highly advanced and progressive ideas and treatments that for the most part seem to be very successful in treating most of these issues.

Religion

The Rylans believe in the divinity of the Sisters of Knowledge, the three wise women who created the Rylans and gifted them with fire, water and reason. The three components needed for them to have learned, developed and become who and what they are.

Mythology

They have a large, almost vast data base of legends, myths and tales that explain how the Sisters of Knowledge educated and taught their ancient ancestors the first important lessons of survival, communication and discovery.

Society

They have an ideal society with very little crime, glorious cities well laid out with all of the infrastructure and facilities needed to provide all of their population with access to transportation, education, medicine, recreation and culture. Virtually no one within their society ever lacks for help and assistance when it is needed.

Culture

They have almost as big a thirst for all forms of artistic expression as they do for new knowledge. As a result they have numerous museums, galleries and traveling displays. These feature not only works created by themselves but from every species within the Caraadian Empire and many from outside of that empire as well.

Customs

All Rylans receive 3 tattoos on the inside of their left forearm. These are of an old woman holding a ball of fire dancing in one hand and pouring out water in the other. Both the fire and the water faintly resemble a young woman.

These three tattoos each represent a different level of educational achievement. Something that every one of them is expected to complete prior to their being considered adults. As they complete each level they receive the appropriate tattoo. First is fire, then water and then the old woman.

Technology

The Rylans are easily on par with the Federation in all aspects and in some instances they have surpassed them. This makes them the most advanced species within the Caraadian Empire and many individuals from within that empire travel to their world to be educated at their various universities and institutions there.

Economy

Since they are currently considered to be part of the Caraadian Empire they have a fairly strong economy with trade being conducted with numerous different worlds. This has been of great long term benefit to their infrastructure and basic overall quality of life.

Military

They have built and continue to support a sizeable stellar navy. This is even with the fact that they are currently considered to be a conquered species. The major difference now is that all of the senior officers and all of the infantry support personnel on these ships are Caraadian.

Federation Intelligence Files

Members of this species were encountered by the crew of the USS Atlantis on an away mission to Urlista Station in the Aelann system on 238207.26.

Within the last hundred years or so, a movement has begun on Rylos geared towards peaceful exploration, expansion and inclusion within the activities of their Expanse neighbors.
