From a young age, she was always fascinated with flying. When they were between runs, her father would let her take the helm, teaching her the ins and outs of maneuvering the craft. But at the tender age of ten, tragedy struck. Their freighter was attacked by a Naussican pirate group and her parents were killed trying to protect her and their cargo. Still recovering from the trauma of the incident, Zaaia was sent to Earth and taken into the care of her only living relative, her maternal grandmother Aileen O'Grennan.
