* Ensigns Orientation: A general guide for getting started in the fleet for new ensigns.
There are many reasons that people join the Starbase 118 fleet. While a love of Trek is a major one, there are some officers that join just because writing these characters is a lot of fun. As such, there are times when you might just need a little bit of extra help ironing out the tech and canon trek information that you include in your sim. Thankfully, the writers throughout the fleet have a few very trusted websites where we can seek out information and help.
* Cadet Orientation: Want to double-check some of the basics? Here's all of the introductory information from your training.

* The Wiki: The Starbase 118 wiki contains a vast amount of knowledge about our ships, fleet, and timeline. Take a peek around the pages.
If you find yourself seeking information, and you don't know where else to turn, consider searching one of the following sites to help you.
* Memory Alpha: An extensive resource on canon Star Trek and the Trek universe.

* The Main Starbase 118 Website: There is plenty of information to be found on the main site for the Fleet including both out of and in-character articles.
The Starbase 118 Fleet Wiki:
Every character has a page as do every installation, team, taskforce, or group that is involved in the Fleet. You can find a lot of information on both Trek and the members and workings of the fleet by searching our Wiki site.

Memory Alpha:
The know all and end all of all things Trek. This site is invaluable when you are looking for anything that is considered canon in the Trek universe.

The Main Starbase 118 Website:
There is plenty of information to be found on the main site for the Fleet. Some of this includes fleet specific information, such as our rank and promotion guide, while other information and articles are based on Trek, Science, and what's going on 'OOC' in the realm of Trek and the franchise as a whole.

Still feel lost? Don't hesitate to contact any member of the command staff with your questions. If they don't know the answer, they can find the answer for you.

Mentoring
New members of the fleet are always assigned a mentor, who is an experienced player who will help you get involved, provide feedback, and assist with answering any questions  you might have. It's common for your mentor to be the one who linked you this guide as well.

If you're interested in knowing more about how promotions work on Starbase 118 Ops, you'll want to check out the Ops Promotion Guide and the general fleet guide to Promotions.
For detailed information on the various ranks available to Starfleet personnel, see the Starfleet Rank Index and Starfleet Marines Rank Index.

*Cadet Orientation - ((leaving the link here so the tutorial can be linked back to as a reference))
While much of our simming process is identical to what you learned in the Academy, there are still some peculiarities we wish to mention. These are touched on in detail below.

Titles are done in the format of Rank Charactername, which may be the character's full name or simply their last name, depending on length and your preference. Then the specific sim title followed by any tags or certain notes for other players within parentheses. Existing is sometimes used in this portion to indicate tags brought in from previous scenes,  as are FAO  which means "for the attention of", and NT simply stands for no tags. We encourage everyone to read all sims to the list, but also wish to ensure players can easily find those scenes to which they own tags.

These characters are NPCs written by only one writer, and may not hold a rank higher than your own. Due to the crew complement on such a large station, Starbase 118 Ops does not tend to restrict the creation of PNPCs. Just remember that they shouldn't outshine your main character, and you still need to keep up with your main character. If you find yourself wanting to switch who your main character is, you'll need to talk to the command staff, and such a change isn't to be done lightly.
