Serala's parents met when her father, seeing R'val's discontent with the way the Imperial Government was treating the Military, began to groom her as an informant. As a Commander of a Warbird, R'Val made a great resource for Commander Davis, until they fell in love. Faced with the difficult position to defect to Romulus, or break off the relationship, Davis was about to do the unthinkable when the Tal'Shiar intervened. A year later, Serala was born.  Her parents tried to instill in her the values of both of their cultures, and for the most part they were successful. She was especially drawn to the idea of mnei'sahe, the Romulan idea of honor, and she has modified this concept to fit her mixed values.
