Due to Shayne's secretive nature, information on his relationships is grudgingly given, usually only on a need-to-know basis. His relationship with his parents is fine, but this sensitive area is often a source of intense discomfort for him. Shayne will not speak about his brother, regardless of the situation.

His relationship with his parents is fine, but this sensitive area is often a source of intense discomfort for him. Shayne will not speak about his brother, regardless of the situation.

As mentioned above, friends are few and far between. Shayne has made only one particular friend in the Fleet thus far; Stephanie Moore. Unfortunately, the ship they served on was decommissioned, and Shayne lost track of her. He considers all he serves with brothers and sisters in everything but blood.
His reclusive nature makes it highly difficult for people to get close to him. Friendships are not sought after, but sometimes inevitable. Spending more than a week in a shuttlecraft with someone will most likely end up causing either a friendship to form or a murder to take place. In this case, the shuttle flight in question was the transfer from the Starship Triumphant to the USS Darwin-A. Shayne struck up a friendship with Lieutenant Varaan.
