Dr. Ian Lane West, D.A.S. is an Astrobiologist and Chief Science Officer on the [[Deep Space 17]].

He is also a member of the Deployable Operations Group known as (DOG)  Ian is a Hazardous Materials expert for the [[Unity One Federation Strike Force|Federation Strike Force]]. He is a Solo Operator on the Tango team stationed on the USS Mercury, Ian is required to attend two subspace meetings a week with his unit commander, Lt. Commander [[Davidon, Chris|Chris Davidson]]

Lane West showed Ian warp care blue prints and models at a very early age, telling him all the parts, the upgrades, what worked how and why.  Before long the two of them would work together in Lanes home office on warp core designs.  Ian at the age of 5 designed a warp core made of pizza.  Lane still has the crayon covered paper framed and in his office.

! colspan="2" align="left"| Ian struggled with an early relationship with his mother, she demanded so much of him but show little interest in him, Ian often felt that his mother favored her student over him and his brother.  Liza demanded a lot of Ian, made him play the piano for 4 hours a day, 8 hours of school then 5 hours of home work, or studying. Ian resented his mother, his friends got play and go do things while he got to sit at home and work.  It was not till much later that Ian found a common ground with his mother.  Ian took a part time teaching job while in college and used the topic to bond with his mother.
 
Liza protested Ian's enlistment into Star Fleet heavy. She had gotten him appointed the Deputy Dean of Advanced Sciences at the Federation Collage in Paris France.  Ian Turned it down.  Now the Ian and his mother barley speak.

Marcus got very sick at the age of 12 and almost died, he was in status for nine months.  After making a full recover Marcus had a passion for Biology and Medical Science and wanted to be a Field trauma surgeon.  Ian and Marcus write each other almost daily with updates.
 
Marcus is engaged to be married to the colones Governors daughter. He also just became the Vice Chairman of the Fellow Federation Collage of Surgeons (F.F.C.S.) for outpost and colony medicines.

Ian enjoys jogging, swimming, and staying fit. He enjoys racquetball, fencing, and rock climbing, and has become a decent golf player.  Ian also loves playing darts with close friends while drinking a New Castle Classic.

Ian has a Hunter 38 foot Sailing boat, that he keeps at Star Base 118 in the commercial sector.  He can be found most often on it when he is at Star Base 118, or on it when off duty while stationed there.

As the hours passed, the crew proved themselves to be resolute and progress began to show as the injured were found and treated and the ship’s systems and power grid were repaired and brought back online. While the Engineering team was in the process of restoring the structural integrity field, a strange old man dressed in robes appeared in Main Engineering. This strange old man introduced himself as the Guardian and said that the Tiger was trespassing on land controlled by the Iconians and that if they did not leave he would destroy the planet and everything on it. After a discussion with the Command Staff, this Guardian decided not to destroy the planet and revealed the presence of a nearby Iconian Gateway shortly before he vanished. With the news of a nearby Iconian Gateway, the crew found themselves posed to launch a full scale investigation.
