Born to a Bajoran female who had a relationship with a Cardassian.  She was brought up after the second Cardassian occupation to a strict religious background.  Her mother had a blessing from Sisko after this she attributed everything good to the blessing and everything bad to the Pah-wraiths.  Her mother died not long after she was born.  Her Father who had stayed after the occupation forces had left loved both her mother and her and together they kept the church going.  Her father converted to the religion after meeting her mother and being impressed with the Prophets it seemed natura that once her mother started worshipping the emissary he followed suit.
