- "His life was an inspiration, his death a loss felt by all. We will strive to be worthy of that loss even as we strive to ensure that it was not in vain."

History
Sometime in the mid-24th century a rebel faction attempted to seize control of the planet. They were opposed by the army and many civilians. This conflict grew in size until it had reached global proportions. They called it the Klaestron Civil War.
The Federation was asked to assist in order to find some means of ending this conflict and Federation Ambassador Curzon Dax was assigned to mediate that ending.
General Ardelon Tandro was an important leader for the government forces during the conflict; he was murdered by the rebels in 2339 and became a martyr, inspiring his supporters to win the war.
As a result of their assistance during this conflict the Federation was able to negotiate a unilateral extradition treaty with the Federation. This agreement had no effect on the fact that the Klaestron were considered to be allies with the Cardassians.
The Klaestron became members of the Federation in 2378.
Government
Following the end of the civil war it took them almost 20 years to replace the temporary interim government made up of high ranking military officers, important civilians and leaders of the various different government forces during the conflict.
Now they have a council made up of nine individuals. 3 are ex-military, 3 are intellectuals and 3 are motivated and talented civilians. All of these must be elected by the people and each serves for between one and 3 terms of 9 years each.
Description
Klaestron were humanoid, with distinct streak-like protrusions on the side of their head above their ears. Their outer ears consists only of a hole in their head. species that is distinguishable in appearance by an ear ridge that comes forward to the eye, raising the hairline over the ear.
Physiology
As with most intelligent humanoid species they have a very complex system with specialized organs, and unique hormones, chemicals and enzymes. They are typical humanoids with most of the physical, mental and biological medical problems that seem to plague most humanoids.
Psychology
Since the end of the civil war the number of people suffering from some form of mental health issue has more than quadrupled. For many years after the war government services were only barely able to cope and many patients were still awaiting adequate medical services in order to help them deal with these problems.
Most of these issues had finally been dealt with prior to their joining the Federation but there are still a large number of people who suffered permanent or long term mental health issues that still need constant medical assistance.
Religion
They have a number of slightly different religious faiths, each with its own version of what they call the Light of Union. This difference is a combination of the written word and certain variances within the manner in which they observe those differences.
Mythology
Most of their ancient tales, fables and legends have survived the recent civil war. In many cases even their original version still survives.
Society
In the wake of the planet wide civil war that seemed to threaten just about all of them there have been a number of changes that have gradually become apparent within their society. People are more watchful of those around them, more apt to jump to conclusions than they did before.
Most of their communities are a jumbled mix of brand new construction and pre-war buildings. The infrastructure in some of these communities is still a shambles of jury rigged make do that usually does as it is needed but still needs to be replaced or repaired properly. Medical services are still dealing with the long term results of so many people being injured.
Culture
During the 24th century, the planet was devastated by the Klaestron Civil War. Many priceless works of art were destroyed, however another result of this war was that after it was ended the people created countless statues of Ardelon Tandro, a general elevated to national hero status after his death. Now almost every single large community on the planet has at least one of these statues.
Customs
Both genders hold equal roles in society.
Treason and murder are punishable by death among the Klaestron.
Technology
Around 2371, the Klaestrons developed a new burn treatment technology. That year, Doctor Julian Bashir visited Klaestron IV to review the new technology, noting that it “has to be seen to be believed.”
Economy
As relatively new members of the Federation they have taken advantage of the possibilities available to them and have almost doubled the number of long and short term trade deals that they have. This has resulted in an upswing in economic growth and a certain degree of prosperity that is slowly trickling down to affect the majority of the population in some manner.
More importantly it has made it possible to finally repair the last of the damage caused by the world wide civil war that affected much of their world.
Military
After the end of the global wide civil war most of the soldiers, rebels and civilians who survived and who were not tried and found guilty of one crime or another left the service and laid down their arms. Only a small token force of land forces was retained although none of their warships in their small fleet were mothballed.
Since joining the Federation no changes have been made and there are no plans to build any more warships of any class except maybe a few frigates to serve as local patrol vessels.
Klaestron starship
The Klaestron starship was a mid-sized vessel used by the Klaestron during the 24th century. It had a high warp capability and was able to achieve warp 5 or better. It was classed as a light cruiser by Federation intelligence.
Federation Intelligence Files
The Klaestron had a close relationship with the Cardassians. This relationship has evolved and changed resulting in them still being friendly but not nearly as close as they use to be.
Klaestron IV had a capital city, which at the time of the civil war contained military headquarters, and an inn outside the capital where Curzon Dax and Enina Tandro spent some time.
The Klaestron became members of the Federation in 2378.
Klaestron-Federation Extradition Treaty
The Klaestron-Federation Extradition Treaty was a treaty that as of 2369 regulated extradition of Federation citizens who had committed crimes on Klaestron IV to the Klaestron government. Apparently it was only applicable to people residing in Federation space.
In 2369 Ilon Tandro tried to invoke the treaty to return Jadzia Dax to Klaestron IV, though this proved difficult as she was currently residing on Deep Space 9, in Bajoran space.
Klaestron Civil War
The Klaestron Civil War was a conflict that took place among the Klaestron people in the mid-24th century. A rebel faction attempted to seize control of the planet Klaestron IV but was eventually defeated by the army and many civilians.
General Ardelon Tandro was an important leader for the government forces during the conflict; he was murdered by the rebels in 2339 and became a martyr, inspiring his supporters to win the war. Federation ambassador Curzon Dax was assigned to mediate in the conflict.
In 2369, a Klaestron warship classed as a light cruiser docked at Deep Space 9. Ilon Tandro intended to kidnap Jadzia Dax and take her back to Klaestron IV. It was captured in DS9's tractor beam as it attempted to escape the station and placed at docking port six.
Jadzia Dax was to be tried on suspicion of being the person who betrayed the general, but she was relieved from the charges. In fact, General Tandro himself had tried to betray his own forces which didn't stop the rebels from capturing and executing him.
