As such, there was a certain focus on spiritual matters and the prophets, but the Prylar’s ensured that all other aspects of education were covered, so their wards could emerge as well rounded as possible.
Ay and Ateh grew especially close to Prylar | Ay and Ateh grew especially close to Prylar Bani, so much so that she eventually adopted them both. When he was old enough to work, he assisted in educating the younger orphans and learned traditional Bajoran medicine in the infirmary.
His sister, ever given to indulging her adventurous nature, joined Starfleet as soon as she was old enough, shipping off to the Academy soon after. She found herself predominantly drawn to security, enjoying the tactics and rigorous training associated with it. Upon graduation, she was assigned to the USS Sousser.
{{Heading|Service History|Blue}} | When Ay was 18, the USS Sousser, the ship his sister served upon, encountered a particularly violent ion storm while orbiting Bajor. The ship disappeared without a trace, despite thorough investigations on both sides of the wormhole.
Spurned on by this nagging mystery, Ay turned his attention outside of Jalanda City for his future. He opted to follow in Ateh’s footsteps, and set his sites on Starfleet.
Once all funeral practices were properly observed, he enrolled, putting his previous experience with traditional folk medicines to work in Starfleet Medical, while also developing an interest in forensic facial reconstruction. Throughout his training, he kept to his religious practices.

Before the USS Gorkon was caught in the temporal anomaly that cast them into an alternate timeline, Ay received unexpected communication from Lieutenant Commander Roger Hartmann, of the Gamma Flotilla. Hartmann reported that fragments from the Sousser had been located, some 9 years since its original disappearance. While he remained circumspect with the exact location, the fragments were deep enough in the Gamma Quadrant that no previous search would have located them.

Academically, his time at the academy was unremarkable. His grades were good, though not standout. He was good enough however that he was able to tutor other students when time allowed, and often got more enjoyment out of that than his own studies.
When he wasn’t on academy grounds, he could often be found in a local bar, The Allegation. Locals would describe it as a “dive”, though he enjoyed its unique charms, and spent many evenings talking to the owners and patrons, and making use of the otherwise abandoned microphone and stage.
The Allegation also helped him meet his closest friend during his stay at the academy, one Lhandon Nilsen.

Ay has often been labeled by his colleagues as “eccentric”.
Prone to making jokes at odd moments, and displaying a variety of impressions involving voices and over-exaggerated physical gestures, His has a sarcastic streek, which like his sense of humor, can present itself at inopportune moments.
With his patients, he always strives to be friendly, preferring a more personal approach to medicine instead of the aloof distance some in the profession prefer to maintain.
Outside of work, Ay enjoys music. His time on earth introduced him to an array of human genres; in stark opposition to the music he grew up with on Bajor, he developed a distinct love of rock and heavy metal.
He plays a handful of instruments and enjoys to sing when he has the time, or when the mood strikes him.
Much as he enjoys his career in Starfleet, he still harbors the dreams he had as a child, to one day perform in the rebuilt Jalanda Forum.{{Heading|Service History|Blue}}
