===Family Background===
Seti Kiris is the only child of Seti Vaienn and Seti Aiye. Vaienn was born to two members of the Bajoran clergy. He spent his youth spreading the faith in secret and preserving knowledge so that it would never be lost. He built a network of dead drops and buried capsules that could hide scripture and relics. He snuck into and out of many refugee camps and traveled across Bajor more than most during the Occupation. During its later years, he also become more involved with the Higa Metar cell of the Bajoran Resistance. He would preach to them and helped them get messages to other cells when necessary. He also met resistance fighter Nulo Aiye in the caves the cell operated out of. The two young revolutionaries were soon married and Aiye found out she was pregnant in early 2367 with their son, Kiris.
Nulo Aiye lost her mother in a labor camp and escaped with her father when she was six years old. They joined the Bajoran Resistance. By age thirteen, Aiye was crawling around at night setting up proximity sensors or monitoring Cardassian positions. She learned marksmanship under cover of night and personally killed at least twenty Cardassian occupiers during her time in the Resistance. Her cell, the Higa Metar, played host to a young Bajoran monk named Vaienn. The two married in 2366 and had a son by the end of 2367. Aiye took a back seat in the resistance for the final two years and was quickly made an officer in the Bajoran Militia after the Cardassian withdrawal in 2369.

===Childhood===
Seti Kiris was born in a safehouse in Jo'Kala in the late hours of Stardate 236711.05. Kiris' very early life was spent living in caves and safehouses across Bajor with his mother and father. He knows of this time only through the stories his parents have shared with him. In the aftermath of the Occupation, both of his parents wasted no time in establishing careers for themselves. Aiye joined the Bajoran Militia as a Captain and Vaienn served the Vedek Assembly as a Ranjen. His family returned to Jo'Kala and settled down after years of action with the resistance.
The only major upset to the family's status quo came in 2373 when Aiye's brother Shon volunteered to defend a glinn from Gallitep. While he insisted it was a matter of principle, that every single person deserved a fair defense, but rumors and accusations of being a Cardassian sympathizer followed him everywhere. Aiye distanced herself from her brother. His client was executed and Shon died a few later destitute and hated. Then came the Dominion War and the events surrounding it. He was far too young to fully understand the significance of the events but has many memories from such a turbulent time. The recovery from the war proved an interesting time to grow up for Kiris and shaped his vision and beliefs to be distinctly different from those of his parents. Although he did certainly inherit their faith in the Prophets.

===Seminary School===
When he was sixteen, he joined the seminary at his father's urging. He studied religious texts and assisted in services for two years. He proved a good student when it came to theology. But he could sometimes frustrate his teachers and classmates with his constant questions and debates about obscure theological issues. Kiris' natural curiosity and inquisitive nature quickly outgrew the monastery that hosted the school. Vaienn tried to bring his son back in line with what was typically expected of a Bajoran clergyman. And while his faith and love for the Prophets was strong, his mind was stronger. Kiris wanted to explore far beyond where holy texts and ancient tapestries could take him. So, rather than moving on to a major seminary in preparation for a liturgical career, Kiris left the seminary to follow his own muse.
