Kasil "Kas" Kesex was born to mother Nasree Kesex on Stardate 235812.31 at a Trill research station off-world, but grew up on  Trillius Prime. Kas's father, Tadrin Prullex, abandoned him and his mother before he was even born, forcing her to raise Kas alone. The lack of relationship with his biological father and the abandonment did affect Kas growing up, but this was offset by his mother's love, kindness, and dedication to giving her son the best she could.

As a child, Kas enjoyed pretend war games with his close friend, Nurel Rison, practicing martial arts, and playing sports. At age 24, he placed second in the Trill equivalent of the planetary triathlon, narrowly missing out on a chance to represent his homeworld in a Federation-wide decathlon.

Deciding to pursue his other interests, Kas bucked tradition and refused the Joining. Instead, he applied for and was accepted into Starfleet Academy, majoring in Intelligence and minoring in Security. Following graduation, he received his placement aboard USS Kilcreggan as a Security officer. Over the intervening years, he completed distance learning classes in Security to earn a second major and was selected as Chief of Security a few months after his promotion to full Lieutenant.

Shortly after the Kilcreggan’s decommission in 2395, he was transferred to the Brixham where he was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and shifted departments, serving three years as an Intelligence Officer in a region on the edges of Federation space. Recent orders from Starfleet transferred him to the USS Chin’toka to fill in for the temporarily absent Lael Rosek due to his previous experiences with races similar to the Valcarians.

Kas is practical, independent, and self-reliant due in part to being considered the man of the family from a young age. Though his expertise is in Intelligence and Security, he enjoys working with his hands and doing useful projects, often involved in several at once. He is hardworking and spends his free time trying to better himself. He loves to read, especially nonfiction and is always eager to learn new skills. His study interests include many different subjects, such as diplomacy, archaeology, and languages. He will research for hours when something captures his interest.

While he is hard-working and very educated, he can come across as a bit condescending. He takes pride in his extensive knowledge, at times to a fault. Over the years, he has learned to suppress his urge to show off and correct others. This has helped him to form more amicable relationships with his colleagues. However, he does still hold his family, friends, and colleagues to high standards and has a low tolerance for ignorance and willful stupidity. As much as he might be critical of those around him, he is also his own biggest critic and is never satisfied with himself.

Though generally very skilled in his Intelligence duties, Kas does still regret his first mission as an Intelligence officer. He was the lead in a hostage situation gone wrong and attempted to talk the abductors out of taking any drastic action. The demands were high and despite his best efforts, a hostage died because the abductors were getting impatient. Though a team was eventually able to storm the location and neutralize the threat, the dead woman serves as a reminder for him to never underestimate what an enemy will do to win.

He is naturally sarcastic and has to exert great effort to suppress this tendency as it can offend others. Though not outwardly expressive of his feelings, he is a romantic at heart and enjoys collecting tokens and souvenirs to commemorate special occasions. For example, he has held onto a few of Billie’s baby items and keeps them in a breach-proof, hack-proof safe at the back of his closet in his quarters.
