Born on Terran to a human telepathic father and Betazoid mother as one of a set of identical twins, Kherys spent a happy childhood on a ranch in Texas. From the time she was little, she helped her father on the ranch and would adamantly proclaim she wanted to be a 'vet'naran' when she was grown up. As time went on, Kherys realised that, as much as she loved animals, she wanted to help people more. | |||
Growing up, her mother told her stories about Betazoid and her travels. Although her mother never seemed to indicate regret in the decision to settle down with one man on a planet in a situation very different from what she'd grown up with, Kherys couldn't help but wonder if her mother sometimes wished she had remained on Betazed, or if she ever wanted to travel through the stars again. Regardless, space fascinated her as well as her twin sister, Arlys. Their first experience with another alien was a Trill, an old friend of her mother's, who had come to visit. As she got older, that fascination continued to grow along with her desire to help others. When both girls were considering their future, a friend suggested Starfleet as a way to accomplish their goals. Both Kherys and Arlys applied for Academy and were accepted, though Arlys graduated as an engineer a couple of years earlier due to Kherys' desire to remain on the medical track. | |||
