Kayla and Ensign Collins were joined in the astrometrics lab by two enlisted crewmen to get a first peek at the 3rd moon of the 7th planet in the Edrov system. The display was startlingly beautiful, but a bit ... off. After adjusting the sensors, the science team discovered the energy being sent from the moon to the gas giant it orbited was causing a Jovian ignition - turning the gas giant into a new star - but doing so in temporal bursts.
After the away team had entered the pyramid-like structure that housed the Heart (as the artifact had come to be known), Kayla and Ensign Waters took the shuttle Condor out to take readings of the energy transfer beam. Due to the moon's defensive system however, they were unable to do so from a safe distance. The Eagle had been displaced in time, and the two young officers on the shuttle realized their only chance of rescuing both the away team and bring the Eagle back was to fly INSIDE the energy beam to the surface of the moon.
They managed to take off again from the surface, but didn't have enough to both trigger the necessary chroniton wave and attain a stable orbit. To further complicate matters, it seemed the whole moon was breaking up without the Heart. Kayla was knocked unconscious, but some quick thinking from Ensign Collins, some skilled flying by Ensign Waters, and expert marksmanship by Commander Pavlova solved several problems at once, and the day was saved.
