The Vegathans are the descendants of [[Caraadian|Caraadians]] who colonized the 3rd planet in the Solerian system and named it Vegath. This was one of the very first colonies established by the Caraadians outside of their own system approximately 11,376 years ago.  

From the very beginning this agricultural planet supplied massive amounts of food to the rest of the empire. Its excellent weather, pleasant environment and vast rolling plains made it ideal as a new starting place for colonists, so much so that after less than 150 years the Caraadian government stopped shipping settlers to this world.   

Time passed, they expanded to settle every corner of their world and as they did they started to change in small ways. By the time of the great war with the enemy almost 6,000 years had passed by. Their skin tones had changed taking on a darker almost rich tan color.  

Following the end of the war and the start of the infighting between the various factions and houses of the Caraadian they stood apart and took no sides or interest in the outcome. Eventually disgusted with the continued insanity they could see going on all around them they declared their independence.  

The Vegathans would take no part and now determine their own destiny. Most of the houses and factions took no notice. They had more important problems to deal with. By the time that they had finally come to some form of understanding which resulted in more than simply a temporary cease fire the Vegathans had had all most 3,000 years to build up their economy, defences and industrial base which before that had been very rudimentary.  

The first meeting between the Federation and the Vegathans was when the USS Providence was accidently fired upon by a damaged weapons platform that had drifted off towards the outer rim of the system. The Vegathans provided assistance and blew up the asteroid to ensure that it never fired on another vessel again.

 

Since then as active members in the Freeworld Council they have had other friendly encounters with other Federation vessels.  

The planet was surveyed and had 13 strategically selected sites chosen for towns to be constructed. Around these communities were miles and miles of farm land. As a result these 13 towns grew over time into major cities governing the 13 provinces. Each city has a council of 13 that govern the province.

When they declared their independence the 13 councils banded together to form the basis of a world government. One that eventually requested to be allowed to become members of the Freeworlds Council, as active members they felt it was the best way they could try and ensure their continued survival as an independent people.  

While they still retain much of the original data they brought with them as colonists over 11,000 years ago they have developed and created their own tales, myths and legends from those early years of colonization.   

While originally settled as an agricultural colony they have had over 11,000 years to grow and develop and much to the surprise of many experts they still retain a definite feeling of rural energy. This may be due to the great efforts used to ensure that no damage has ever been done to their environment or the huge amount of effort taken to reduce the impact of their presence on the environment as a whole.  

While they do enjoy most types of artistic expression and have a number of large well stocked museums and galleries littered with off world creations and some of their own works as well it is music that has really flourished. Countless different styles and types of music are enjoyed with literally millions of tunes being played daily all over their world.  

They have a very strong economy which is still based on agriculture and export literally 2.5 billion tons of excess food every year. This is mainly due to their ability to grow crops year round and most farmers are able   Thanks to a large number of deep underground mines they can now produce enough raw materials to function and continue to produce those tools and other equipment that they need to maintain their current way of life.  

They moved literally hundreds of thousands of asteroids, mining them in the process for all the raw resources before turning those same asteroids into floating auto defense platforms. These were then scattered all around the inner part of their system along the path that their world takes while orbiting their sun.

 

As for the rest of their military they have 4 ship classes based on ship designs borrowed from the Caraadian military and altered to meet their needs. These are the (Weeding) frigate class, (Reaping) destroyer class, (Planting) light cruiser class and (Harvest) heavy cruiser class. Based on their needs they normally have 15 Harvest class, 30 Planting class, 60 Reaping class and 120 Weeding class vessels in service at any time.
