Kani was six and the youngest of seven children when his parents moved them from their home on Bajor. They actually ended up drifting for a while until they were picked up by a Freighter who was shuttling refuges from all over the quadrant to StarBase 118. Kani wasn’t exactly shy on the Starbase as he had made a number of friends, all of which he was sad to leave when he left for Earth at eighteen after his parents disowned him because he didn’t care about the Prophets. Kani arrived on Earth with nothing except a heart and a dream. By a bizarre happenstance of luck, he met a kindly old man named Kyle Dryden. Dryden had no children of his own so he took pity on Kani and offered him a chance at being a Doctor. Kani was thrilled, so much that he took Dryden up on his offer and went on to medical school. There he took his undergrad in Nursing and went on to get both his Ph.D in Psychology and his M.D. Kani worked with Dryden at Dryden’s private medical practice all through school, and for a year after as part of the agreement they had made. Once the year was up, Kani left Earth to see the stars.

 

Story behind his tattoo - On his left shoulder blade is the name Sabrina in black ink inside a red rose. Kani got this tattoo the day of his graduation from Medical School to honor the first crush and the first friend he ever had, because it reminded him of true friendship, a bond that could never be broken no matter how the stars are aligned.
