While en route to Avronis, engineers discovered that their shuttles had been tempered with, something that slowed down the upgrading that those shuttles needed in order to transport an away team to the planet's surface. When Ambassador MacLaren discovered this drawback, he allowed the crew to use the 'Robert Bruce' his specially modified shuttle. However, on his way back from checking on this shuttle's specifications, Lt. Whittaker was viciously attacked.
While en route to Romulan Space, Lt JG. Whittaker and Ensign Oori discovered that their shuttles had been tempered with. When Ambassador MacLaren discovered this drawback, he allowed the crew to use the 'Robert Bruce' his specially modified shuttle. However, on his way back from checking on this shuttle's specifications, Lt. Whittaker was viciously attacked.

He was found by Ensigns Oori and Ezo, and promptly transported to Sickbay. Brek and Tatash both reported there in order to question the young engineer, but the interview never happened. For soon after the arrival of Ensign Korras, (who revealed yet more problems, this time connected to their sensors), a Marine, who appeared to have lost control of his mind, turned on them, pointing a phaser at Ezo. Thankful, the entrance of a hapless crewman with an injured hand provided a distraction and Tatash incapacitated the Marine.

Tatash brought the unconscious Marine to the Security Department, where he suffered a mental assault, leaving him with just enough lucidity to call Dr. MacLaren. Their CMO went to him right away. Upon discovering his trauma, both transported back to Sickbay.

During that time, Korras had apprehended one of the invisible saboteurs, and was struggling to keep control of that being.

Two decks above, while enjoying some rest time in the Galactic Halo, LtCmdr. Vitor Silveira and Ensign Antero Flynn came across another invisible being, who tried to take control of Silveira.

Meanwhile, after a huge explosion that claimed their most important recycling station, Administrator tr'Lleodah went to Avronis V, where he discovered that the workforce was fomenting a mutiny.

At the same time, Major Nelkar lost control of his underground base when the Iconian gate activated itself, releasing several aliens inside his base. The activation provoked several intense tremors that facilitated the escape of Captain Ben Linvingston and his small crew. Aware that he was well and truly trapped, Nelkar sided with Livingston, and together they worked on a way to get away from Avronis.
