After coming off of his medical leave, Tristam was posted to Deep Space 17. After his promotion and a round of drinks at Molly Malone's, he became good friends with Msafiri Bakari, the station's Chief of Security.
During his time on the station, Tristam was tasked with looking after two cadets (Ukaramesh Blanufic and Vian Nova) on their cadet cruise. He became friends with Blanufic, but became particularly close to Nova - of whom resigned from Starfleet after spending almost three months on DS17 with Tristam, citing "personal conflicts". It is presumed that she may have been involved with Tristam on a personal level - he speaks of her in a high respect, despite using some of his history with her to prove that a solution to a problem or an idea in which he thinks may be ridiculously bad.
During his final week on DS17, Tristam was convinced that there was a squeak in the floor of his quarters, causing him to be in an annoyed mood and making it difficult for him when packing to leave. It was only until the last day on the station that he believes it rectified itself.
