Chythar entered Starfleet with a passion for science. Already having an MD from University of Washington, he couldn't help but wonder if he was really cut out for science. While he saved the crew of the {{USS|Centris|A}} from Orna's Disease, he truly felt he was a medical man after all. Thus, when he graduated and was offered a position on Starbase 118, he was placed under the tutelage of Dr. {{n|Johanna|MacLaren}}. During his time on 118, he saw himself change.
