:: They had just finished with their patients, and sickbay was quiet, leaving Sun to be thinking about some things again. With the way this crew kept getting into trouble, she was going to need to take some action to help safeguard herself, as much as was possible in Starfleet, while allowing her to continue to do her job. ::

Faranster: Jalana... I need your help with something.

:: The Trill was bringing their workplace back in order. It was nothing worse than having a patient and not finding what they needed because they had neglected to put things back where they belonged. Hearing Sun she did not look up but listened.::

Faranster: I didn’t quite expect the amount of trouble that this crew tends to find.

:: It was true, she felt like they seeked out trouble, and that there would be one day she’d be injured beyond a bump on the head, or scrapes on her arms and legs. She knew that if that ever happened, she’d have to depend on technology to make synthetic blood and organs. But, she didn’t think they had the information needed to make them.::

:: That comment got Jalana’s attention and she raised her eyes to her assistant. She could easily understand these words, she had been surprised as well. Even more when she found herself in one of these situations, although she always had been careful to avoid them. The image of the rifle she had looked into came to her mind, shivers running down her back and her stomach clenched, but she quickly pushed the memory away, now wasn’t the time for that.::

:: She wondered if the request sounded odd, but it seemed that the events from the night before made it less so as her boss looked thoughtful. ::

:: Just as Sun spoke Jalana remembered their conversation, that seemed like such a long time ago. Sundassa had told her about the biological differences between her species and others, the aggressiveness of their blood and how that made them incompatible with others. Back then Jalana of course saw the problems with that in case of emergencies, but they did not prepare for eventualities. Possibly they both did not have expected that they would be needed.::

Laxyn: I understand. I don’t know why I did not think of that earlier... it seemed unnecessary. But seeing what happened now even in a time all we wanted to do was having a nice vacation... ::she sighed:: One can never be too prepared I guess.

Laxyn: ::nodding:: That should work. We do not know enough about your blood to replicate it, but if we have a sample we could grow it in the laboratory. It would have the advantage that we know for sure, that your body accepts it and won’t try to kick it off.

Faranster: They should work replicated... It was one of the few things we actually used replicators for. Since it’s difficult to find a match.

:: The thought that Antosians did this regularly was quite a surprise to Jalana. She was used to the ‘artificial organ’ route and many seemed to walk this path. There were different kinds of artificial organs, from machines to synthetic ones. Now replicating of organs was a different thing. Usually Replicators could not simply replicate living matter, but medical replication worked a little different. It was replicating in a literal sense, from sample tissue and DNA cells of the patient instead of replicator mass. That took of course a little longer, but was still faster than trying to get a new organ in another way or to build it. To work the replicating process needed a model of the organ they were to replicate from scratch or they would not fit, might not have the proper functions or simply were not compatible. Since Antosians were pretty rare in the Fleet, they did not have this data on file yet, so this was an exciting little adventure. One Jalana had not expected to show up on her doorstep like that.::

Laxyn: Mhm.. that would need a deep scan to make sure we get everything right. To get an organ do what it is intended to do is, as you know, a lot of puzzle work with that method. But if it works, it’s genius. ::Jalana felt the excitement rush through her veins at the thought of that experiment she could conduct and clapped into her hands, pushing herself from the biobed.:: Where should we start?

:: She thought about it, not sure what to do first, but after a moment, the scan would probably take some time, and the blood draw should be saved for last. That way she could rest afterwards. And it was only something worth doing if they had time. ::

:: Sun walked over to the biobed, while she hoped that everything would be done soon, there was a small part of her that was nervous that they were getting this out of the way now. She guessed it was because she could no longer be in denial of the dangerous situations that they found themselves in. ::

:: Jalana followed Sun to the biobed, though their way split as Jalana walked to the control panel and prepared for the scan. She would have to go in really deep and that would take a while longer than regular medical scans. But for that they would get a lot of information about Sun’s biology, her anatomy and the way Antosian bodies worked. A rare treasure and more than helpful if anything would happen to Sun to a degree that her body needed severe help.::

:: Sun climbed up on the bed, and laid down, staring up at the ceiling, she wasn’t sure how long the process would take, and was wondering if on beds like these, they should put some sort of design on the ceiling to keep the patient’s attention off the sounds of the machine scanning. ::

:: The arc slowly slid out of the bed’s substruction and began to cover Sun’s body until it reached the other side, only the woman’s head was still visible as the control light lit up, signaling that it was ready to begin. Jalana pressed a few more keys to make sure that the Data landed where it should and controlled the settings before she started the scan. With that out of the way she turned to her friend and colleague, smiling down to her.::

:: Sun realized there was a different type of excitement at the lake for her, one that was more relaxing, and left her with goosebumps whenever she thought of it. But, she wasn’t sure how much she wanted her friend to know yet. ::

:: That reason sounded so very familiar to Jalana. She did not have the urge to stay at the hotel either, actually had been wanting to get as far away as possible. That Viktor had the idea to visit the forest played right into those wishes and she was still thankful for that.::

Faranster: That sounds wonderful. My time was spent in the rain. :: Not that she minded, she enjoyed the company, and once she got out of the wet clothes, she was warm. She noticed her boss’s smile, she had an idea the two were a couple because of her behavior during quarantine, but the smile made her wonder. :: Anything interesting happen?

:: She was curious, she was pretty sure that wedding ceremonies like the ones they did on Antosia weren’t done in StarFleet, after all, the whole ship would come to a standstill for the celebration, which could last anywhere from three days to a week, depending on the endurance of the bridal couple. She wondered how they went about their customs on their military craft, she’d probably have to ask her brother about that. ::

:: There was a beep coming from the controls and Jalana turned her eyes to the monitor. The Scans were not done yet, but they needed readjusting. Laxyn: What? Oh yes. The scan was done with the setting it was on but needs to continue on the deepest level. That means you can get out of this thing in a few minutes. :: Jalana became quiet and the memory of the day before became present again, not the great one... the time in the restaurant. When it was happening, her focus was on preventing lives being lost, she was worried about her friends and Jaxx. Faranster: The man that you helped, did you get any further information on him? I wished I sent in more helpful equipment, but needed to figure out a way to use the situation to our advantage.

Laxyn: I actually wanted to contact the hospital today to check up on him. He might not be a crew member but I still feel like I should make sure he got out alright. Who was that other person you spoke about, who was there because of you?

:: She nodded, Bajoran the woman who greeted tourists, Saray Ileana. Who died due to injuries caused by the explosion. The woman who wouldn’t have been there if Sun didn’t ask her to tag along. ::

Faranster: Yeah. While we were eating, one of the new guys had brought a date, and she knew more about the place than any of us, so I asked for her to help us. When the bomb went off, she was caught in the blast and suffered some severe injuries.

:: It reminded her of her former patient back on Earth during her residency. He had been quite sick and nothing they had done could have helped. Still she’d felt like she hadn’t done enough to avoid the unavoidable. Maybe that was the curse with being a doctor, one always thought that there should have been  more to do.::

Faranster: I know it’s a strange question, I’m sorry. I just am not sure what it feels like, and you had them pointed at you yesterday. I am not sure how I would have reacted to that.

:: Now she had more reasons to be curious, if she had a phaser pointed at her, she didn’t want to wonder what it would feel like, she wanted to know. That way she would know whether what she was doing was worth the wound or not. Without the information, she might make a stupid decision one way or another. ::

Faranster: I haven’t either. I just don’t know what our people felt when hit, or if I would be as brave as you or not when faced with the circumstances. I’d like to think I would.

Faranster: I am. It doesn’t help me to know what the patient is going through if I haven’t felt even a bit of what they are going through. If I know what a phaser feels like, I’ll whether or not to be scared, and take appropriate action. Not to mention, that my curiosity would be satisfied in a safe environment where nothing is likely to happen to me.

:: Listening to the explanation, it slowly started to make sense. To know what would happen, how it felt, would possibly help to prepare oneself instead of being overwhelmed with the new sensation, the changes in ones body. She could not imagine how it would feel, she only saw those that were injured and that usually didn’t look too well. ::

:: Her thoughts went back to Jaxx and how he made it seem like it wasn’t a big deal. It was conflicting to have someone she cared for giving her one impression, along side the fact that they used phasers as weapons to ensure their safety. ::

:: The scanner beeped again, giving the signal that it was done. Jalana was thankful for the break, the small distraction. It gave her time to think about the request. If she would not have to shoot, would it be better? She pressed a few keys and the arc opened, freeing Sun’s body from the medical cage.::

:: Sun headed towards the containers, and started opening them trying to figure out what was in them and started putting away the items, newer stuff behind the older stuff, the way it was supposed to be. ::

:: Jalana followed her friend and grabbed one of the boxes that would store some of the drugs they needed and heaved it to the cabinet. But that would have to wait until they made sure that the delivery would not be in the way anymore. ::
