An Unwanted Guest

((Diplomatic Corps, Brek`s Office))

::Since he had been asked to contact the Romulan Ambassador, Brek browsed through a few templates, and decided on something formal but vague. There was no need to start the hostilities, so to speak, even before the meeting had occurred. He contacted the Ambassador's apartment, on deck 780, and left the following message:

Captain Samal Frazier (Ret), General Envoy for Starbase 118 Operations would be pleased to receive Senator Vreeya, of the Romulan Delegation, at the earliest convenience.::

::Brek stood frozen in front of his computer, wondering if the Senator would reply right away, or play the busy card of a VIP, when he received a communication, altogether different from what he was prepared to hear.::

Crewman: =/\= Lt Brek, Amabassador Qual, from the Ferengi delegation has arrived. The Captain has been informed. He wants you and Ambassador Frazier to meet him at the airlock. =/\=

Brek: oO Frinx. What is the Alliance playing at now? Oo =/\= Very well, I'll contact her to inform her that we are meeting her delegation right away. =/\=

((Seconds later))

Brek: ::Still taken aback by the situation.:: =/\= Ambassador Qual? I didn't know you were scheduled to visit SB118. I am Vice-Counsellor Brek, at your service. To what pleasure do we owe your presence among us? =/\=

::Qual grinned in response to the question.::

Qual: =/\= Why, I am here to negotiate an amicable solution to your Pergium issue. The Grand Nagus understands that every major power in the sector wants their hands on this resource... what better opportunity for a third party to step in and provide neutral ground, mm? =/\=

Brek: ::The mere mention of the Grand Nagus had him on edge. As the head of the Ferengi Government, the Grand Nagus, in his various incarnations, was reputed to have ears, and eyes, everywhere. However, even more troubling was the fact that this specific Ambassador was a female…:: =/\= It is a privilege to have you with us, Ambassador Qual, however, I must point out that your presence was not exactly anticipated.=/\=

Qual: =/\= I'll be leaving my ship shortly. I would expect the same treatment that any foreign dignitary would receive. =/\=

Brek: =/\= It goes without saying Ambassador Qual. ::Brek was aware that his tone of voice was rather obsequious, but he couldn't help it. To him, a Ferengi dignitary was many times more intimidating than any figure of authority he was called to welcome in the line of his functions.:: As a matter of fact, Captain Jaxx is on his way to meet you at the airlock, as we speak. Ambassador Frazier and myself will be joining him. =/\=

Qual: =/\= Excellent. Golden Renumeration out. =/\=

::Brek looked at this terminal as if it was an evil force, responsible for all the unpleasant things that existed in the galaxy.::

oO That the Alliance felt an urge to interfere with Thracia 2's situation, this I can understand. But why did they have to send a female?! And who else was going to turn up to confuse the deposits' issue even more?! oO

::Brek grabbed a PADD, so that he would be aware of any answer made by the Romulans, and headed for the airlock. On his way, he gave a silent thank you to the computer system, for directing him promptly towards his destination. Overall, the place was still largely unfamiliar to him, and trips like these made him feel uncomfortable. He swore that it had nothing to do with meeting a female Ambassador.::
