A sentient species which reproduces by budding, apparently asexually - otherwise nondescript except for the need for a hatchling pond - is represented in Starfleet and on Deep Space Nine by Ensign Vilix'pran, who is reassigned away from the hazardous materials of Cargo Inspection a month before the buds undergo hatching.
