History

The Malurians evolved from a meat eating, reptilian predator and in the beginning they were nomadic, living in family groups. They quickly evolved into the dominate life form on their world. Strangely enough even though they were aggressive hunters they seldom fought among themselves.

With time they eventually settled and created small communities. This change was due more so to population growth and the need to ensure their food supply than any other. However it did allow them to continue to evolve as a species, to develop technology and to create a more satisfactory way of life for their people.

With time they were able to establish a unified government. One that served the people and worked to improve not only their way of life but their sphere of influence and power base as a species. This remained their driving focus even after they developed space travel.

One of the first things they did after creating ships capable of exploring their system was to visit and explore the other planets in their system. As a result they discovered that Malur IV was capable of sustaining life and with a bit of work Malur V might also be capable of doing so as well. Colonies were established on Malur IV and work commenced on Malur V in the hopes that it might eventually be capable of supporting colonies as well.

In 2148 they discovered the homeworld of the Akaali who had reached a pre-industrial level of development. Further study of their world revealed that they had an abundance of veridium isotopes. A substance they needed in high quantities if they were going to succeed in converting Malur V to a usable planet for them to live on.

As a result in 2151, the Malurians were secretly mining the Akaali homeworld for veridium isotope using drilling equipment saturated with tetracyanate 622. The mining team was led by Garos, who was disguised as an Akaali shopkeeper most of the time. Most of the other miners were also disguised as Akaali. The entrance to the mine was accessed through a secret passage in Garos' shop.

The Enterprise arrived in orbit in July of 2151, and detected an antimatter reactor, which a people who did not even have indoor plumbing should not have. Further investigation showed that something in the vicinity of the reactor was causing most of the Akaali near to it to become ill.

With the assistance of the Akaali Riann, Captain Jonathan Archer discovered the presence of the Malurioans, their mining activities and of their use of tetracyanate 622 to improve productivity which was what was leaking into the local water supply and making the native Akaali sick. They were able to put an end to the Malurian mining activities. The Enterprise notified the Vulcan High Command in the event that the Malurians tried to return.

In 2267, their civilization, consisting of just over four billion people on the planet of Malur III and Malur IV, was completely wiped out by the Earth space probe Nomad. The Malurians were being studied by a Federation science team under the direction of Dr. Manway at the time.

The Federation offered to assist the less than 1 million survivors who had been out of the system when it happened. They refused, demanding that they be left alone. Most of them returned to their home system and re-established colonies on Malur III and Malur IV. Now after almost 120 years they are again expanding within their system and have just established a colony on Malur V.

Government

Many of their old ways were lost or abandoned in the wake of their almost becoming extinct. Now they have a military dictatorship that shows no signs of ever being replaced.

Description

The Malurians are a scaly, thick gray-skinned, cold blooded humanoid species. Their teeth are razor sharp and they have sharp claws on their hands and toes. They have a smooth shaped head with no ears or nose, just slits where these organs are.

Physiology

Like lizards they have thick gray scaly skin that is fairly resistant to most normal forms of abrasion or laceration. Internal organs are built around a meat eating system although they have adapted to be able to consume cooked meat and some plants.

Psychology

They believe it is their destiny to rule the stars. Any action is acceptable if it promotes the future and strength of their people.

Religion

No data regarding religion to be found within the Federation data base. Most experts tend to agree that the survivors of the near extinction event caused by the Nomad probe that almost wiped out their species abandoned any beliefs they had.

Mythology

No myths or legends to be found within the Federation data base. In the wake of the devastation caused by the near extinction event caused by the Nomad probe that almost wiped out their species it is believed that any and all records in regards to this subject were destroyed.

Society

Their cities and communities are filthy. What matters is production, not only of raw material and manufactured goods but children. The government has installed a law requiring all couples to have at least 10 children.

Culture

While they were never really that interested in the arts to begin with the Malurians as a species no longer waste any resources on them.

Customs

None of their customs survived the attack of Nomad. In the wake of its almost total extinction of their species they have adopted a few new ones. All adult males serve 10 years in the military and all adult females try to have at least 10 children.

Technology

They strive to increase their technologies however the main method is by theft. They will buy stolen technology from anyone and have an entire division of the government dedicated to off world industrial espionage. They prefer to use other species to do the actual stealing so as to prevent their involvement from becoming known.

Shuttlecraft

This type of shuttlecraft was utilized by the Malurians in the 2150s. These vessels were capable of atmospheric entrance and were equipped with a cargo bay and a tractor beam system. Since then they have greatly improved on the design and capabilities of these vessels.

Economy

They will trade with anyone. They do not recognize any of the Federations laws and hold the Federation responsible for the destruction of their people. However they are smart enough to know that they cannot flaunt their illegal actions in the face of a superior power. They will use intermediaries whenever possible.

Military

They have retired most of the ships that survived the attempted extermination of their species. They have since started to build more modern craft using a number of stolen technologies. It is a small fleet but very large considering their population.

Old Style Warship

This starship was utilized by the Malurians during the mid-22nd century. These large vessels were equipped with multiple weapon platforms which could fire ten powerful charges simultaneously. They were also able to generate defensive energy shields.

In 2151, one of these vessels came to the Akaali homeworld to pick up Veridium ore from with the Malurian mining operation on the planet. As a result they came into contact with the Earth vessel Enterprise as its crew were trying to sabotage their operation.

Federation Intelligence Files

In 2151, Captain Jonathan Archer witnessed a Malurian shuttle, picking up cargo from the Malurian mining operation on the Akaali homeworld. They were secretly mining for veridium isotope using drilling equipment saturated with tetracyanate 622.

The mining team was led by Garos, who was disguised as an Akaali shopkeeper most of the time. Most of the other miners were also disguised as Akaali. The entrance to the mine was accessed through a secret passage in Garos' shop.

The Malurian system was an inhabited system. This system had at least four planets. One of these planets was the homeworld for the Malurians, a warp capable humanoid species. Other planets in the system had been colonized by the Maluriansm as well. In the last census, four billion Malurians were counted in the system.

In 2267, Dr. Manway led a Federation science team to the system. This team had a special transmitter for emergency situations and they sent in routine reports on a regular basis.

Shortly after their arrival a distress call was sent from this system by the Malurians. The closest starship to this system, the USS Enterprise, responded to the call. They were able to determine that their civilization, consisting of four billion people on the planet Malur III, had been entirely wiped out by the Earth space probe Nomad. The Federation science team was also destroyed.

Captain Anne Gauvreau claimed to have recovered other Nomad probes in deep space, which she in turn sold to the Smithsonian Institution. Since the records seem to indicate that there was only one nomad probe ever launched most experts tend to agree that she misidentified her discoveries.

Rivgor

The Rivgor was a Malurian warship that was owned by the Raldul alignment, in the 22nd century. In 2163, the Rivgor served as Dular Garos's command ship during the "Mute" crisis. She engaged the "Mutes" in battle numerous times, and destroyed the USS Thejal to provoke a war between the "Mutes" and the newly formed Federation. Ultimately the plot was revealed and the Federation task force turned on the Rivgor. She was able to get away, but got severely damaged in the process.

Nomad

Nomad (or Nomad MK-15c) was an interstellar space probe designed by Jackson Roykirk and launched from Earth in 2002 with a mission of seeking out new life. It was a prototype, and the only one of its type built.

In flight, Nomad was damaged by a meteor and lost contact with Earth. It later merged with an alien probe called Tan Ru, resulting in a powerful new machine which, due to scrambled programming, destroyed anything that was perceived as imperfect.

Nomad was rediscovered by the USS Enterprise in 2267, after it had destroyed the inhabitants of the Malurian system. Mistaking Captain James T. Kirk for Jackson Roykirk, Nomad allowed itself to be brought aboard Enterprise. There, it erased the memory of Lt. Nyota Uhura, and killed Lt. Comd. Mongomery Scott.

Nomad was able to then "repair" him. Eventually, Kirk managed to convince Nomad it was imperfect itself, and thus leading it to self-destruct.
