"You know when Vance said this would be like the old days, I didn't think he meant 'prehistoric'"

Lieutenant Lilavati Chandur is the Chief Medical Officer of the USS Thomas Edison, assigned to Prometheus Station. A veteran of the Dominion War, Dr. Chandur was a junior officer when the war began but came out a hardened veteran. Resigning a few months after the war ended, Lilavati returned to Earth to start a family with her husband Anik Thangavel. In 2377, Lilavati gave birth to a son, Anil, followed by a daughter in 2378, Anika, and another daughter in 2385, Roshini. In 2391 she was persuaded to return to Starfleet by Captain Morgan Vance, her XO during the War. Taking an 8 month rotation on the Thomas Edison, Lilavati was due to transfer off the Piktar system in a few weeks, before the Prometheus Incident changed everything.

Early Life

Born in Mombassa, Kenya in 2346 to a well established Keralite Indian family, Lilavati grew up along the white sanded beaches of the jewel of Eastern Africa. Growing up, Lilavati was a rather wild but intelligent child, who largely blew off academia to read independently in trees or on the beach. A multi-cultural city, Lilavati grew up speaking Malayali, English and Arabic fluently. When she was 15, her father was posted to the USS Galaxy as a civilian researcher for a while and offered to take Lilavati with him. Living aboard the Galaxy for a year, the officers and crew rubbed off on her and she began to take things in her life more seriously, but only just. Upon returning to Earth 13 months later, Lilavati set her sights on seeing more of the wonders of space she had seen onboard the Galaxy and made it her personal imperative to apply to Starfleet Academy and become a Starfleet Physician. For both a sense of adventure and a desire for fame.

Time in Starfleet

Upon entering the Academy, Lilavati took well to Starfleet life, being an excellent cadet and an incredible young academic. She graduated in the top 5% of her class and entered Starfleet Medical Academy the fall afterwards. Upon her graduation from medical school, she was given a deep space assignment, aboard the USS Trafalgar, an aging Excelsior Class vessel. Over the course of two years, the young Dr. Chandur served with distinction and was eventually promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade, and was once again assigned to the USS Galaxy in 2373. Her joy at being assigned to the Galaxy was cut short when the Dominion War broke out and the Galaxy became a frontline ship of war. Serving in the Galaxy's medical bay for the majority of the war including the First Battle of Chin'toka, Lilavati saw her fair share of action. Seeing potential in the young Doctor, the Captain of the Galaxy recommended her for a promotion and she served on the USS Nobel as their Chief Medical Officer.

This would be happy occasion was cut short as well when the Nobel was destroyed at Ricktor Prime, one of many ships to suffer the same fate. Out of a crew of over 800, only 86 survived, including Lilavati and then Commander Morgan Vance. Drifting alone in an escape pod for several days, the two officers formed a close bond that would continued for near 20 years. Eventually they were rescued and taken to a Starbase for rehabilitation, reuniting with the rest of the survivors. Refusing to be taken off the frontlines, Lilavati and Commander Vance returned to active duty soon afterwards and served for the remainder of the war on the USS Cape Town, seeing action at the Battle of Cardassia Prime.

With the end of the war and the new year, Lilavati was somewhat eager to return to some normalcy in her life and resigned her commission in the summer of 2376, after a promotion to full Lieutenant.
