History

They evolved on the largest continent of their world, a peaceful people, one that learned to farm and build settlements very early on in their development. Life was easy, they had plenty to eat, good weather and no real predators to worry about.

Time passed, advancements were slow but they continued to expand, growing in numbers. It was only when their population started to exceed their ability to feed it that any real drive for scientific discovery was sparked. Overpopulation caused serious problems, famine and plague erupted and the need for some way to deal with it fueled an even greater drive for new knowledge.

New discoveries in medicine were quickly followed by better ways to farm and more productive ways to manage those farms. Other fields of discovery were opened up and they continued to develop, growing in numbers and knowledge, both at a more reasonable rate than before.

Throughout all of this they remained a relatively peaceful species, more interested in assisting their neighbors and the pleasures of the flesh that they could ever be interested in conflict or negative emotions.

Even when they entered into the industrial period in their development this remained true, progress running side by side with their inner drive for an easy, relaxed way of life. This remained true right up until they discovered space flight, followed by warp drives and started to expand by establishing colonies. They had successfully established 3 of these when suddenly they lost contact with one of them.

When they sent out a couple ships to investigate they lost those as well but not before they could send a message saying that they were under attack. Further investigation resulted in their discovery that their colony had been destroyed. Every single one regardless of age or sex had been killed, many of the bodies having been hacked to pieces with bladed weapons of some kind.

It was not that long after this that they learned the identity of this aggressive force. It was the Vek, a species of militant, fanatical, ultra-religious believers that they are the only children of the divine Varak. All other species are the creations of evil and must be destroyed. All attempts at contact resulted in violence and death.

The Minnobia were sent into a panic. They had no weapons, no warriors and no understanding of war or conflict. They had already lost one colony and more than 2 dozen ships. They feared that unless something happened soon they would lose more, maybe even their homeworld..

They sought out possible solutions, considered options and lived on the verge of panic. This lasted until the Orions offered them a possible solution. In exchange for 10,000 females of their choosing as well as one million metric tons of raw resources, manufactured items and other products to be mutually agreed upon they would provide a fleet of 25 warships to provide protection for one year. The Minnobia instantly agreed.

What followed were a couple years of relative peace for the Minnobia with the Orions doing the fighting and dying for them. This ended when the Orions dramatically increased their payment demands as a result of a massive loss they suffered in battle with the Vek.

By this time the Minnobia knew they could hire on species to fight for them, they had learned from watching the Orions. Them and other species they had come into contact with. Added to this was the debris that they retrieved from a few of the heated battles between the Vek and Orions. They had examined it, studied it and realized they could both copy and improve on some of the technology.

They converted their second shipyard, the new, bigger one they had been building into a military production facility. Using all of the knowledge they had discovered on their own and that which they had either traded for or reverse engineered from battle debris they constructed their first warship.

So when the time came that they cancelled their contract with the Orions they had already produced over a dozen destroyers of their own. Not only that but they had managed to hire on a large number of mercenaries for a much more reasonable price than what they had originally been paying the Orions. This new force was instrumental in keeping the Vek at bay while more warships of different classes could be manufactured.

Now they maintain a large force, over half of which is normally mercenaries and have been able to keep the Vek at bay.

In 2373 the government of the Minnobia arranged to purchase the entire inventory of mutagenic retrovirus from a couple of unsavoury individuals. This deal was finalised on DS9 and came to the attention of that stations police services.

Government

The Minnobia have always had a central government, one selected using an unusual selection process, one that is used for communities, districts and the overall planetary government. Individuals are nominated, considered and then approved based on qualifications or simply the will of the people. Once this process has been completed if there are more nominees than are required they put all the names in a box and pull them out one at a time. The first name pulled will always be the head of the new government. The rest will fill various slots in the government based on whose name was pulled when and the rest become advisors and project directors based on need.

Description

Physiology

As with most intelligent humanoid species they have a very complex system with specialized organs, and unique hormones, chemicals and enzymes. They are typical humanoids with most of the physical, mental and biological medical problems that seem to plague most humanoids.

Psychology

The Minnobia are a laid back people, one dedicated to their own pleasures more than any other aspect of their life. They simple could not really give a care about the problems or concerns of other species except for how they affect them and their lives.

As with most intelligent species they can and sometimes do suffer from various different types of mental illness. However they prefer to simply put these individuals somewhere out of sight. Currently that means the Institution for Creative Mentalities which is located deep within a massive asteroid orbiting a gas giant out near the edge of their home system.

Religion

The Minnobia have a wide range of gods and goddesses in their pantheon of gods, however almost all of them are depicted as young virile males or as seductive, voluptuous females. Naked statues of all of them can be found everywhere, placed in shrines with waterfalls and flowers all around them when possible. Most of these gods and goddesses have some form of connection to some form of pleasurable activity.

Mythology

Since they have such a wide pantheon of gods and goddesses they also have a fairly large and wide ranged collection of tales, myths and legends regarding them and their possible interactions with the Minnobia people. For the most part these stories are simply there for their enjoyment, a means to enliven a dull evening by spicing it up.

Society

They have a very decadent and hedonist society with everyone working hard when they have to but only so they can better afford the many and varied pleasures available to them.

Recreational Drugs

Recreational drug use is wide spread and it is difficult to determine just how many different types are currently available on their world. Strangely enough they do control and monitor which drugs are brought into their system and made available to their people and certain drugs that have a high level of addiction or negative side effects have been banned.

Culture

They enjoy opulent surroundings and lavish parties. Art work of all kinds, visual and musical tend to have a sensual quality about them. This is particularly evident in the multitude of statues dedicated to their various gods and goddesses. All of who are depicted as young, sensual, virile and seductive.

Customs

They have few customs that do not require them to throw a large, lavish party. For them it may seem to be just another excuse to enjoy themselves and to wallow in the perverse pleasures that seem to be the ultimate goal of every work day. However it may also be a throwback to simpler times when they worked hard and rewarded themselves with more simple pleasures.

Technology

Thanks to their trade system and their ability to reverse engineer various salvaged vessels from some of the battles fought in their defense they have been able to maintain an almost equivalent level of defensive and offensive technological capability as that of their enemy the Vek.

Economy

Shortly after their unfortunate contact with the Vek they managed to meet and avoid hostilities with a number of other species including the Orions. This evolved into a long term defensive contract of goods for services. This turned out to be merely the first of many as they went on to establish a fairly large and well developed trade system that has strengthened and supported both their own quality of life but their ability to defend themselves from the Vek.

Military

They have been forced to develop and produce military warships in order to defend themselves from the unprovoked and ongoing attacks of the Vek. This has resulted in the creation of a large and diverse fleet of ships covering a number of sizes and ship classes.

Mercenaries

The Minnobia have always relied on the services of mercenaries to both bolster their defensive forces and to act as an expendable resource when needed. They work very hard at concealing this aspect of their relationship with these hired mercenaries.

For the most part they treat these mercenaries exceptionally well. Besides paying them well they also repair, maintain and when needed upgrading their ships for free as part of their service contracts. They also supply all medical needs for free as well. On top of this most mercenaries take full advantage of shore leave opportunities, basking in the decadent relaxed way of life enjoyed by their employers.

As a result many unsavoury characters including smugglers, pirates and other criminal scum will retreat to this system and sign up as mercenaries. Both for the perks involved but as an effective way of hiding out when needed or of enjoying the profits of their various illegal activities. Regardless the Minnobia government does not care. As long as they are actively taking part in the defense of their people, colonies and system then these individuals are safe from extradition to other governments for prosecution.

Federation Intelligence Files

Minnobia is a species whose population is engaged in a war with the Vek. The Federation learned of this in 2373.

In that year, Quark claimed that Hagath and Gaila's supplier had sold a very large stockpile of a mutagenic retrovirus to the Minnobia.
