History

Their early history is partially a mystery. Not much effort has been expended trying to learn more about it. What is known or at least what a few educated experts believe is that each of the 15 large island continents may have had their own distinct cultural sub-group. In this certain tales and legends tend to support this and describe certain wars and conflicts that resulted in the elimination of some of these groups.

Recorded history does confirm the elimination of 5 of these sub-groups, 3 of them as a result of a war of genocide that killed off every man, woman and child. In these 3 cases it was the result of a deliberate and systematic plan to exterminate the enemy. The other two groups seem to have been absorbed into the sub-group that defeated them.

As time passed wars were fought, the more advanced the technology the more devastating the war. This continued for many generations until the final case of sub-group genocide as a result of a truly brutal and devastating war. The leadership of the last 6 remaining sub-groups met and debated the problem over a period of almost 13 years.

They finally agreed to restrict weapon technology and to preventing any sub-group from conducting any research into any form of weapons research. They felt that this might prevent the kinds of wholesale slaughter that had been drastically on the increase. For the most part it seems to have worked, although it has not remarkable decreased the various aggressive parties from targeting civilians.

In 2153, when the Enterprise NX-01 visited the planet, the current government had been in power since the late 2140s, but was overthrown by a xenophobic militant group, leading to the visit of the Enterprise to rescue three Denobulan scientists.

When the Enterprise took longer to rescue the scientists than the new government had allotted, a Xantoran patrol ship fired upon them.

Since then the government has flopped back and forth between different factions with a number of brutal civil wars being fought.

Government

In the beginning each cultural sub-group had their own form and style of government, this as much as anything else was the cause of numerous wars and hostile conflicts. Eventually groups worked together to form supposed unified central governments. These never last and factions would change sides and a government would be forced out and a new one established.

As a result they have a very unstable government that is known to change hands every few years. Added to that is the fact that all 6 cultural sub-groups continue to have their own culturally unique governments. Governments that refuse to recognize the authority of any other cultural sub-groups.

Description

Physiology

As with most intelligent humanoid species they have a very complex system with specialized organs, and unique hormones, chemicals and enzymes. A large number of them suffer from a condition that is very closely associated to hemophilia.

Psychology

They are susceptible to a wide range and large number of mental issues, phobias and abnormal psychotic activities. Unfortunately they do not spend a lot on medical treatments, facilities or research when it comes to these problems. For the most part they are ignored, locked away out of sight in sub-standard conditions and facilities or simply disposed of.

Religion

Each cultural sub-group has their own religious beliefs. In many cases these are radically different from those of the other cultural sub-groups. In a few cases these beliefs are so radically different that any contact between members of the different groups will always result in some kind of conflict. Usually this will escalate into some form of deadly violent conflict.

Mythology

They have numerous tales, legends and myths regarding the early conflicts between the different cultural sub-groups, included in this are a number of stories that detail the slow but progressive destruction of a number of the unusual cultural sub-groups that existed all over the planet.

Society

They have 6 different distinct cultural sub-groups, each with a slightly different way of life that is reflected in the way that they as a community exist. For example with one sub-group they live in homes in extended family groups, often in excess of 20 or 30 individuals. In another sub-group the home is always built around a central open courtyard with a garden and a fountain.

Culture

They have 6 different distinct cultural sub-groups, each with their own peculiar style of music and even instruments that they use. In fact in most cases those instruments will only be used by the culture that created them. Even their taste in other artistic forms of expression are drastically different. For example to one of the cultural sub-groups any picture of an individual is forbidden and is considered to be both insulting and offensive.

Customs

They have 6 different distinct cultural sub-groups, each with their own distinct beliefs, heritage, cuisine and customs. As a result this has been the root of almost every war, civil disturbance and conflict on the planet. Especially as in most cases what is acceptable to one culture is unacceptable to another.

Technology

They are well behind the Federation in every way and cannot compete with them in any fashion. That being said they do have a good government funded research program but one that is carefully monitored by the government as well.

Economy

They have to be fairly self-sufficient as the few long term trade deals only supply them with a fraction of the goods they want or need. Most merchants who are successful, usually take advantage of any off world contacts they have been able to establish to move both their families and their business off world as well.

Military

They maintain a very large, well trained and equipped military defense force. One that is routinely used to put down civil unrest, terrorist movements and various radical factions. This force includes a large number of land, sea and air vessels.

High ranking military officers have the power to place regions or districts under martial law and while those areas are under martial law can try and sentence offenders to the death penalty with no outside interference.

Their space fleet is just over 50 ships ranging from frigates to heavy cruisers. While not as advanced technologically as most Federation warships they are still well built, with good crews and the best technology they have available to them.

Federation Intelligence Files

They have a very unstable government that was known to change hands every few years.

In 2153, when the Enterprise NX-01 visited the planet, the current government had been in power since the late 2140s, but was overthrown by a xenophobic militant group, leading to the visit of the Enterprise to rescue three Denobulan scientists.

When the Enterprise took longer to rescue the scientists than the new government had allotted, a Xantoran patrol ship fired upon them, leading Cmdr. Tucker to suggest that it was just a "kick in the pants" to hurry up to the ship.
