History

The early history of the Xindi is a remarkable one but eventually the minor conflicts escalated and they destroyed their own planet in the mid 2030's. Fortunately many of them all ready had colonies off world and they had enough warning that they were able to save much of their population. The Arboreals were able to save just over 65% of their population but that was mostly due to the fact that when the last war started they began transferring large numbers of their people to their colonies. They never took sides in the last war and remained neutral right to the end.

Approximately around the same time that the war was winding down and just before the destruction of their home world they were contacted by an alien species that gave them information. This information was instrumental in their escalating their efforts to move their people off world. This same species then informed them years later that the humans from Earth would one day destroy all of the Xindi. As a result they built and deployed a probe that they sent to Earth. This probe ended up killing millions of humans. With a successful test completed they started to develop a much bigger weapon that could destroy the planet Earth with one shot.

This alien species was called the Guardians by the Xindi and they practically worshipped them, considering them saviours. Children were taught to revere them and give thanks to them at the end of each day. It was a terrible offence to question a Guardian.

In 2153, one of the Arboreal’s shuttle craft set down on the northern end of the equatorial islands located on the Loque'eque home world. The vessel was discovered two weeks later by the crew of Enterprise, who attempted to access the ship's data banks to learn more information on the Xindi, but were unable to complete their attempt after becoming infected by a mutagenic virus and being transformed into Loque'eque.

Shortly after this the Enterprise discovered the location of one of the Arboreals colonies. The colony was very peaceful, it had no defensive systems, no active sensors, no artificial satellites, and no orbiting starships. Native species included the tree scarabs, which were often hunted by the Arboreals that settled the planet. It also has several deposits of topaline ore. A scan of the planet showed that their were about a hundred residents, and eighty of them worked at the kemocite refining facility. This facility, whose primary technician was Gralik Durr, used positrons and antiproton bursts to refine kemocite into a pure form for sale. The colony did not sell to just the Xindi, but many other races as well. It did not sell to weapons manufacturers, however.

In early 2153, the colony began supplying kemocite to Xindi Council member Degra for "research." This kemocite was the most pure ever ordered, with impurities at less than six parts per million. In October of that year, Captain Jonathan Archer of the Earth ship Enterprise came to the planet on a tip from Tarquin while searching for the Xindi superweapon. He informed Gralik that his facility's kemocite was to be used in the weapon being built to destroy Earth. Gralik assisted Archer in sabotaging the last kemocite shipment to Degra, as he did not want his product to be used for violence.

When Degra approached the Xindi council and offered evidence that the mysterious aliens were lying to them and that the humans were not a threat to their very existence, the Arboreals were receptive and sided with Primates. They worked together to try and prevent the use of the super weapon. That is until it was hijacked by Dolim and the Reptilians and the Insectoids. After that a number of Arboreal warships participated in the battle to stop them.

With the super weapon destroyed and the threat of the aliens altering the very nature of space within the expanse stopped, a kind of peace was achieved between the Xindi and Earth. Over the years this relationship has slowly evolved to the point that the Xindi are currently entertaining the idea of becoming members in the Federation.

Government

Prior to the destruction of their homeworld the Xindi were ruled for eons by the Primates. It was only after they lost their home world that they were able to finally form a joint council with 2 members from each of the 5 species having a voice and a vote. This system worked well until they discovered that the Avians had not been wiped out as believed. It took almost 75 years but finally the Avians were convinced to accept a spot on the council and each species now has 3 representatives.

Description

Xindi-Arboreals are members of the multi-species Xindi race. They are one of the most peaceful of the six species, which shared a common genetic ancestry. In appearance, Arboreals are covered with hair and have long sharp fingernails, dark eyes, and a ridge running from their noses to the back of their heads.

Arboreals wear belts that seemed to indicate their rank. For example, Gralik Durr's assistants wore two belts while he himself wore three. Jannar wore five belts.

Physiology

The Xindi-Arboreals are one of the very few intelligent humanoid marsupial species known to the Federation. They typically have one child at a time and it is born live and transferred to the mother’s pouch where it will live for the first 2 to 3 years of its life. Other than this they are fairly typical humanoids with complex specialized internal organs.

Psychology

Arboreals are afraid of the water. They were considered to be lethargic by the other Xindi species. They are also extremely calm, even when taken hostage. On top of this they tend to be able to deal with all other species in a calm and relaxed manner regardless of the situation or the peculiarities of the species they are in contact with.

Religion

Numerous experts from a wide range of species have been confused by the Xindi religion for many years. The number of unusual contradictions and seeming inconsistencies have left them puzzled and perplexed. First of all is the fact that each species have their own name for their god. Next is the fact that each species perceives that god to be a reflection of their own best qualities. Each species portrays their god as being similar in appearance to them.

What has confused the experts is that all 6 species agree that they all pray to the same god. Furthermore they have never had any hostile disagreements over the many differences between how each species honours their god. They all accept those differences. In fact it is not unusual for Xindi of different species to all use the same temple even if the beliefs, images and ceremonies are nothing like those found in their own temples.

Sovha

The arboreals call their version of their god Sovha. His image is usually that of a middle aged arboreal with dark green intelligent eyes. His statues are always life sized and their will never be more than 1 in any temple. This image will be located in the center of a round room at ground level.

All of their temples are built around a central round room usually about 50 paces wide. Around this will be 6 antechambers, each with one door leading into the central round room and one leading out into the outer gardens. These chambers are used for a number of purposes. Around the entire building will be a round green space usually at least twice the size of the temple. This will be a well groomed nature preserve with trees, plants, shrubs, etc.

Services are silent with each person entering, finding a place to stand and then gazing upon the statue while they think about the blessings and trials they have endured since last they stood here. Then they move up to the statue and touch the interlocked hands while saying a short prayer in a soft quiet voice.

Mythology

Unlike some of the other Xindi species the arboreals were able to save almost all of their recorded history as well as the ancient writings of their ancestors. Unfortunately these ancient stories tend to be long, dull and seemingly with out any point.

Society

They have an idyllic society with peaceful, hard working citizens going about their business. Family is important and so is the community. Individuals will help out others who need it. Crime is almost unheard of unless it is committed by one of the other Xindi species.

Culture

They enjoy most art forms but lean towards soft, gentle melodies in their music. The visual arts need to be good representations of nature and the environment around them.

Customs

When a female grows up they do not move out until they have become married. On the other hand a male is expected to live on his own for a minimum of 3 years before he can ask a female to marry him.

Technology

They are not the most advanced Xindi species with the majority of their people becoming workers not thinkers. They usually get new technology by trading with the other Xindi species. Right now they are slightly behind most Federation member worlds.

Economy

The Arboreals probably have the strongest economy of all 6 Xindi species. They have numerous colonies and mining facilities scattered across 5 sectors. They have more trade deals with more species and tend to be regarded as extremely trustworthy business partners.

Military

Relatively speaking, Xindi-Arboreal starships were not very powerful. A single Xindi-Reptilian patrol ship could easily destroy three Arboreal ships. Even after all this time they still have ships that are more peaceful than war like. This is a reflection of their peaceful natures not a reflection on their engineering skills. They will defend themselves but they would much rather find a peaceful solution to any disagreements.

Federation Intelligence Files

The Xindi (pronounced ZIN-dee) were an alliance of species who evolved on the same planet in the Delphic Expanse, known as Xindus, whose infamous attack on Earth and attempts to terminate Humans in the early 2150s changed the course of history and initiated the series of events that helped establish United Earth as a major interstellar power.

In the mirror universe, Xindi ships fought in a conflict with the Terran Empire sometime prior to 2155. In the 26th century of an alternate timeline, Xindi served on the USS Enterprise-J during the Battle of Procyon V against the Sphere Builders.
