History

Among themselves they have had a fairly peaceful history with no real wars or other major internal conflicts. Progress has been slow and steady and the only real noteworthy item has been the numerous invasions. They have co-operated with the Bactrica to fight off the first couple. Since then they have relied on first the Azziz and then the Federation to help them fight off the Tzenkethi and other invaders.

The USS Enterprise transported the Trill ambassador to settle a dispute in the Peliar system between the planet Peliar's Alpha and Beta moons. This system is also home to the Bactrican species as well. In a nearby system the Azziz are their closest neighbors.

Due to their location so close to Tzenkethi controlled space, both the Pelians and the Bactrica have been the object of invasion forces multiple times. As a result they eventually allied with the Federation in order to fight off these attackers. Eventually due to the strategic importance of their world they were granted membership into the Federation.

Government

Their planet is divided up into 8 districts. Each district has an elected council of 21. 3 members from each council are selected by the council to serve on the central council. This one is responsible for the operations on the entire planet.

Description

On average they stand between 4 and 5 foot tall and weight between 100 to 160 lbs. They have wide placed eyes that tend to be black or brown in color. They have oval shaped heads that tend to be wider with the top being almost flat with large ears that stick out to the side. Their skin is light brown with a much paler strip running from their mouth down their neck, chest and belly.

Physiology

As with most intelligent humanoid species they have a very complex system with specialized organs, and unique hormones, chemicals and enzymes. They can see in low light as well as most others can in normal light and have excellent hearing.

Psychology

They tend to be a little on the timid side and can be very sneaky when they need to be. As a species they tend to be almost silent when moving around. Other than that they suffer from a number of mental illnesses that Federation technology has been able to help with.

Religion

Their pantheon of deities is countless with more than 80 different gods and goddess. Most of them are fairly weak power wise and each one is responsible for only 1 aspect of their culture.

Mythology

The stories concerning their pantheon of gods is so big that the main library in the capitol that supposedly contains a copy of every single story is by far the largest building on the entire planet.

Society

They tend to live in smaller cities than most with almost half of each city being below ground. These communities are well laid out with decent sewage and transportation. Since joining the Federation they have started to slowly improve their health and social systems. Crime is a normal part of any large community but tends to be less violent than among most other species.

Culture

They tend to be more interested in art that is centered around sounds like music and singing. They are also extremely interested in the culinary arts and this may even be more interesting to them than music. They are not really that interested in other forms of artistic expression.

Customs

Greetings amongst themselves are intricate and follow a precise time honored tradition. When dealing with off worlders they use a much modified system that can still be a little confusing as it follows the following pattern. Planet, district, city, family, name. Among themselves it is the opposite with more information included.

Technology

They are still behind most of the other member worlds in the Federation when it comes to technology. This does not bother them as they seem to be satisfied with the many other benefits of being a member of the Federation.

Economy

Both the Pelians and the Bactricans have signed agreements allowing the Federation to engage in mining operations with in this system. Most of these operations take place in the massive asteroid field that is in the outer orbit.

Prior to this they only traded with the Azziz and the Bactricans but since they formally allied and then eventually joined the Federation they have been able to extend their trade agreements and triple their exports and imports.

Military

They maintain a very small military that has never been able to defend them against alien invasions. It is large enough to protect them against pirates and other small alien predators.

Pelios Station

Pelios Station was a Federation space station located in the Pelian system in the Alpha Quadrant. It orbited the star Pelios at a distance of twelve light-minutes, between its second and third planet. The station was home to approximately two hundred and fifty crew.

Pelios Station was constructed following a petition for help from the Bactricans during that race's conflict with the Tzenkethi. The station was not only a diplomatic base, but also served in a support capacity for the mining operations in the Pelian system.

Federation Intelligence Files

Negotiations for the Bactricans entry into the Federation took place on Pelios Station, as did the Federation's first contact with the Azziz. Pelios Station was also where Benjamin Sisko first met Ambassador Curzon Dax. While on Pelios Station, Sisko became romantically involved with a woman there.
