Born on Ferenginar to Nalavak and Rinka, Nonka was one of quite a few children. Namely Yazack, Beribar, Razal and Prazoc. Unlike her family, predisposed to an obsession with making profit, her interests lingered more in what dwelled above her, in the beautiful starry soup of space. And as it turned out, with a bit of poking and prodding from granny Yagena who had always secretly dreamt of exploring the stars herself, stargazing and science in general was a subject she was quite talented in. More talented than waitressing at the family restaurant, which often spelt disaster, thanks to her proclivity for dropping things.  

Although Rinka and Nalavak were disappointed when Nonka told them she was applying for Starfleet Academy, resulting in a very awkward discussion over slug steak one evening, it was decided that perhaps having a daughter in Starfleet would someday prove useful and highly profitable, and that making those connections wouldn't hurt. (Not to mention Nonka was utterly useless both on the floor and in the kitchens anyway). Although a lover of space and all of its planetary bodies, often wearing big gas giant earrings on her lobes to show that, she has fallen in love with all aspects of being a Starfleet Officer and is usually the first to volunteer herself for any activities that come her way, even those outside her area of expertise.
