:: James turns to the captain, his expression quite sheepish. ::
JAMES: Sir, about the sabotage....
((Bridge, USS Discovery-C, A few minutes ago))
:: James had the full diagnostics of the sensors open on his panel. It
might be engineering's job to work out exactly what was wrong, but he had some
some time where he could afford to be distracted and its not like he didn't
know what he was doing. The results puzzled him somewhat. As far as he could
tell there was no device attached that could do this, although as he had not
physically inspected the computer core, it couldn't be rejected, neither was
there any sign of any virus, worms or trogans... Inspiration hit him! He
directly checked the source code of the system controlling sensor feedback and
lo and behold found a single commented line that could cause erratic sensor
output, in the right case! Now he just had to find out how... ::
0o Ah, there is a diff log... Oh... 0o

JAMES: It appears not to be sabotage after all. Recently, there was a slight
code update and... it has a small bug... When certain systems activate, a
line of code which should execute doesn't causing erratic sensor output, very
similar to that which you'd expect from tampering....

JAMES: It happens, although that's not an excuse. I'd very much like to...
talk... with whoever thought it was a good idea to submit that patch, still
it should be able to easily be fixed... I would expect a new patch to be
waiting for us when we arrive.</nowiki></pre>
