On 238703.20 there was a shuttle crash and fire in the hanger bay where then Petty Officer Second Class Stoyer was assigned. The fire killed some of the senior petty officers and the Hanger Chief. After the fire was out the Captain promoted him to Petty Officer First Class for leadership during the fire. It was suggested that he apply to the Academy and to his surprise was accepted.
