Orson is an intriguing character; for some, something about him makes their blood boil in an uncomfortable way; for others, he's a unique enigma with a quick joke. He is intelligent and charismatic, though not necessarily at the same time. He can emotionally detach to protect himself. He tries to find people who can challenge him, intellectually and physically, if desired. His character could be the embodiment of adventure and recklessness, a drug of choice; senseless and destructive, sometimes intimidating when not kept in check. Talking to him during one of his high moods, one can get the sense that he wasn't quite born but created from somewhere dark and cold, and forced to survive, relying only on his wit and intellect. His external warrior hides a frightened child inside. He has no control over his greatness; he was born this way, and don't forget it.

Resenting his parents for raising him and his sister in a warzone due to Starfleet commitments, he shipped out for the Academy as soon as he could, and if he hadn't, he would have found another reason to leave. There are not many Bear considers friends on the [[USS Gorkon]]. A product of spending a significant portion of his career on solo-missions, he finds it difficult to maintain friendships beyond an immediate connection. The same is true for romantic partners. He is straightforward with people who wish to develop something with him and doesn't expect it to last long before someone is let down.

Born on a starship (the ''USS Adelaide'', Galaxy-Class), the oldest sibling of three and the first born to Starfleet Officers. He lived the majority of his childhood moving from ship to ship with his parents, with little stability as the prospect of war took hold of the Federation. A contingent of Starfleet Officers were sent to quell the Marquis on Volan III to prevent further hostilities along the DMZ, and his parents settled there in 2369, at the brink of the Dominion War, in time for his sister to be born on the colony. For the next four years, they spent most of their time on the colony with Federation members, sometimes hiding from Cardassian infiltration, sometimes repelling Marquis attempts to control the mining systems. While too young to have participated actively, Orson remembers what life was like during that time and resents his parents for placing him and his young sister in that predicament.


Orson was always a contender for a career in Starfleet. He was brought up on stories of galactic heroes who triumphed over domination by the Dominion and took a lot of what he was told to heart. As soon as he could, he joined the Academy in training for Security and Tactical, and shipped out to start life among the stars. He excelled academically, a trait his sister envied, and he in turn envied her demonstrable abilities in Engineering, to think with a technical mind and a level head.

He has moved around the Federation, working in remote locations for long periods of time, and little else is known about his career. He was listed as Absent Without Leave for several months, until he appeared on Starbase 173 having been frozen in a fissure with no official record of his reassignment to the base. From there, he has been reassigned to the USS Gorkon as a 451st Platoon Ranger.
