+Friendships developing between comrades is a common occurrence. But it is rare to find a pair of friends quite so mismatched. Where Shayne is neurotic, timid, and had difficulty containing his negative feelings, Varaan maintains excellent control of himself, as is expected of his people. Their friendship may not have come to be if not for a long, confining shuttle trip to their new assignments. Since it began, their friendship has slowly evolved, and Shayne is looking forward to many years of service together.
