Nigel Barrett spent most of his years on Earth, living in a small suburb outside of San Diego, California. Born to immigrant parents from London, England, his father, Phillip, was a computer programmer, and his mother, Elizabeth, was a stay at home mom/teacher. She had home schooled Nigel and his sister up until they entered high school, hoping to spend as much time with them as possible when they were children. For the most part, Nigel had quite an ordinary home life, and seldom experienced any type of hardships or pain in his childhood years. The only thing that really affected him was the death of his grandmother, Emily. Being a integral part of his life, she was often at their home, babysitting, reading him stories, playing baseball with him, and teaching him how to play chess. Her death brought on  much grief, and it wasn't until he was older that he finally understood that everyone has their time to go, and that it was inevitable. In recollection, his grandmother always told him that she would be leaving him one day, but being so young and full of innocence, he didn't pay any mind to it; he always thought she would around forever. With her passing away, Nigel was still only seven years old, and was already perplexed by life, it's meaning, and what is true calling was. Growing up he shifted interests quite often, one day he wanted to be a doctor, a computer engineer, a scientist, a baseball player, a pilot, he just didn't know for sure, Starfleet wasn't even in his cross hairs at this time.

Growing up he shifted interests quite often, one day he wanted to be a doctor, a computer engineer, a scientist, a baseball player, a pilot, he just didn't know for sure, Starfleet wasn't even in his cross hairs at this time.

Even with him feeling overwhelmed by the fear of growing up, and having responsibility, Nigel was just like every other kid, he liked to read, experiment with computers, play games, play outside, and eat enormous amounts of ice cream. He played in soccer for several years in high school, and had a deep passion for baseball as well. In the back of his mind, he knew he wasn't good enough to play either of these professionally, so Nigel kept himself focused on computers, but at the age of twelve, he discovered a new found interest in Starfleet when overhearing about it on the news. After this, he would find himself day dreaming, and staying up late at night, going out on a small terrace just outside his bedroom window, just big enough for him, and a telescope. He would peer up at the stars, forever mesmerized by their beauty, mystery. From that point on, he knew for sure he wanted to be up there, exploring, gliding through space, and Starfleet would give him that opportunity.
Even with him feeling overwhelmed by the fear of growing up, and taking the reins of responsibility, Nigel was just like every other kid for the most part.  He liked to read, experiment with computers, play games, run around outside, and eat enormous amounts of ice cream. It wasn't till one day, after he entered high school that he knew he was different. He was constantly worried about school projects, meeting new people, and getting up in front of the class doing presentations terrified him, but it was a very crucial part of school. He also spent much of his time organizing his books, and cleaning his room. His mother, being a psychiatrist, identified these issues immediately as disorders and she did her best to help him cope with his fits of anxiety and Obsessive Compulsive tendencies, but the cognitive behavioral therapy methods just didn't seem to help. One day, she found him cleaning his bathroom, and he had gone over the same spot, over and over, for nearly thirty minutes. Eventually, with much support from him Mother and Father, Nigel calmed down, though he still finds himself counting things, and spending time organizing useless items, it's not nearly as bad as when it first surfaced. Anxiety still plagues him to this day, but he is getting better with that. One odd thing about Nigel, is that he is very shy at first, but once he opens up, he is funny, and can be the life of the party, it just takes him time to get to that point.

During his high school years, Nigel still remained under the radar. He wasn't top in his class, but he wasn't at the bottom either, which was fine with him, he was content with his mediocrity, but he knew he must push himself if he entered the Academy. Holding a B or C average just wouldn't cut it. After college, he entered the Academy, eager, and driven. He set his sights on becoming an Engineer, and now he is a Ensign assigned at the Duronis II Embassy.
