Kaelon society is marked by the ceremony of the Resolution, where all who reach the age of 60 commit ritual suicide so that they do not become a burden to others. There are no exceptions under any circumstance and Kaelon has lost many of its best minds to this ritual. This leaves the irony that the most sacred ritual in their society may eventually be the death of it.
When a person's Resolution comes they are joined by their family and friends in a joyous celebration and their loved ones are left with a wealth of positive memories about the departed.  The practice is seen as cruel and barbaric to many outsiders, but to the Kaelonians it is a celebration of life.
