While on shore leave at New Scotland, the crew of the USS Challenger found themselves involved in a homicide investigation.  On stardate 238710.01 Lieutenant Edward Chambers, an engineering officer aboard the Challenger, was arrested for the murder of his uncle, Ebenezer Chambers by the local police force.  Upon receiving the news of their officer’s arrest, Captain Samal Frazier and First Officer Commander Tal Tel-ar ordered a full scale investigation.  

Commander Tel-ar designated three investigation teams; Team 1 - under Lt. Cmdr. Dickens, Team 2 - under Lt. Cmdr. Reid, and Team 3 - under Lt. Lawn.  The Starfleet investigation unit was ordered to cooperate with the indigenous law enforcement agency, but to leave no stone unturned.   

To begin the investigation, 11 minutes of security footage seemed to have mysteriously disappeared.  This missing footage was critical evidence that comprised much of the investigatory efforts.  The teams conducted routine, efficient interviews with the suspects and witnesses.  In true Starfleet fashion, the Challenger’s sleuths managed to get to the details.
  
During an attempt to recover the missing data, Lt. (j.g.) Tanjar-Ongra was wounded by a hostile hologram…but not before he succeeded in salvaging the information.  In the end, it would be Dr. Reid’s team that would pinpoint and locate the real killer.  With the assistance of Ensign Ocran and Lt. (j.g.) Tanjar-Ongra, Lt. Cmdr. Reid identified the true assassin as Jason Dean, a crooked business associate of the late Ebenezer Chambers.  Not only was Jason Dean a crook and a killer, but he had serious ties to the Orion Syndicate.  The Police were quite pleased to take such a criminal into custody.

As a result of the Challenger’s investigative efforts, Lt. Chalmers was subsequently released and all charges against him were dropped.  He was immediately restored to duty, and the Challenger’s staff was recalled from shore leave.
