The Taren are a secret pacifist group who believe that alien influence has corrupted Terran civilization. Their aim is to expel all non-terran colonies or civilisations from the Federation and to then begin a neutral, non-interference policy with all other forms of life. This information was revealed in a brief mandate received by Starfleet Command on Stardate 237304.01. In 237411.16, they were revealed to be responsible for a terrorist attack on Starfleet Command. The attack was responsible for 42 lives, and injured another 63 more. An investigation fell upon the captain of the USS Freedom-A, Captain Pelleteir, but subsequent events revealed that the ringleader was Admiral John Maxwell Phelan of Starfleet Intelligence. All further information was subsequently classified, however, the crew of the USS Freedom-A were cleared of suspicion and charges.
