History

Antarans have been at war with the Denobulans several times. The last conflict of which took place in the 19th century. However Antarans continued to strongly dislike Denobulans until at least the 2150s, even though encounters between the two species were extremely rare. This behavior was due to widespread prejudices, as every Antaran was taught from childhood that all Denobulans are enemies, to be feared and reviled.

After the Denobulans became members of the Federation the Antarans tried to form their own coalition of worlds. This effort failed. As a result they did not enjoy the many benefits that their enemies did. This was evident in the increased economic prosperity and technological advantages that the Denobulans were now enjoying.

Due to this rapid shift of power in favor of the Denobulans the government could only see 2 possible means of countering it. Declare war and attack with all their power or ingest their pride and ask for membership in the Federation. It was a close call. A large section of the government and the people were in favor of declaring war. However when it became known that if they did the Andorran, Humans, Tellurides, Vulcan and the rest of the member worlds of the Federation would come to their aid this plan was dropped. In 2209 they requested admission to the Federation. In 2213 the Federation voted and they were admitted. At this time the Antarans were surprised to learn that the Denobulans had voted in favor of their being admitted.

Government

The Antaran have an elected council of 11 individuals who serve for 11 years. Each year one member of the council is replaced with a newly elected candidate. The chairman of the council is the councilor who has served the longest and will be replaced at the end of the year by the newly elected councilor.

Description

The Antaran people are humanoid with hair on the back half of their heads. The males tend to keep thei hair short but the women like to grow it down past their shoulders. This gives them the impression of haveing a high forehead.

They have 2 ridges of flesh shaped like a V that starts at the top of their nose and ends at their hairline. They also have no eyebrows and protrudeing brow ridges that make their eye's seem deep sunk in their faces.

They have a wide range of sizes, heights and weights like most humanoids.

Physiology

Very similar to most humanoid species.

Psychology

Very similar to most humanoid species.

Religion

They believe in Divine Ascention. If one lives their lives in a manner that is deserveing then upon death they will become one with the universe. Otherwise they will be reborn and be given another chance.

Mythology

Very few myths and legends remain. Most have been slowly tossed aside as they have advanced as a people. Probally a good thing as the villian in all their myths was the Denobulans. Research shows that prior to the discovery of the Denobulans the enemy was a demon like being that could alter it's appearance. These demons would trick people so that they would perform acts that would prevent them earning Divine Ascention.

It is logical to guess that shortly after meeting the Denobulans for the first time one of them became startled and puffed up his head as a result. The Antaran's jumped to the conclusion that they were demon worshipers or demons themselves.

Society

They have a diverse society with few problems.

Culture

They enjoy many forms of cultural activities. These include art, music, dance and large, lavish, outdoor theatrical performances.

Customs

The most noticable ceremony they have is the Ascention. When someone dies they are taken to a special chamber where the family and friends meet to reflect on the life of the deceased. No food or water is consumed in the chamber for 1 full day. As soon as someone cross's the threshold into the chamber they are forbidden to speak until they leave. At the end the door is opened and they leave. Special attendants then remove the body for disposal as it no longer has any connection to the individual that died.

Technology

Their technology is about midlevel for a member world of the Federation.

Economy

They enjoy a diverse and successful economy as a member world of the Federation.

Military

Since their inclusion into the Federation they no longer have a military force of their own. As they slowly eliminated their forces they became more active within Starfleet and the Marines. However they do still maintain a large force of military police with a small number of frigates that they use to police their region of space.
