Zimedia Nijal
Zimedia Nijal is a Cardassian officer of the Federation Starfleet. She was assigned to the USS Oumuamua directly from Starfleet Academy, and is excited about her first deep-space assignment -- but also is uncertain about the particular assignment, as she feels a little uneasy with the assignment of the Oumuamua to the Gamma Quadrant and dealings with the United Dominion of Planets, given the Cardassians' complex history with the Dominion.

As she was commissioned in the middle of 2399, Zi Nijal has no Starfleet history to speak of (as of, well, the middle of 2399).
She attended Starfleet Academy when she was old enough to do so, after having set her sights on becoming a Starfleet officer as a young person, as she grew up with Federation aid for Cardassia's rebuilding. Even with a few negative experiences at the Academy, she maintains a very positive attitude toward Starfleet.
She is one of the few fully Cardassian officers in Starfleet.
