History

The Primates are cited as having been the second Xindi species to have evolved a very high degree of intelligence, preceded by the Xindi-Aquatics. According to those records that have survived the destruction of their homeworld the Primates dominated most of the Xindi homeworld for eons, ruthlessly oppressing the other species (which they considered inferior) to the point where the others (particularly the Xindi-Reptilians and Insectoids developed a hatred of them that remained into the 22nd century.

The early history of the Xindi is a remarkable one but eventually the minor conflicts escalated and they destroyed their own planet in the mid 2030's. Fortunately many of them all ready had colonies off world and they had enough warning that they were able to save much of their population when they were warned by an alien species that their home world was doomed.

This same species then informed them years later that the humans from Earth would one day destroy all of the Xindi. As a result they built and deployed a probe that they sent to Earth. This probe ended up killing millions of humans. With a successful test completed they started to develop a much bigger weapon that could destroy the planet Earth with one shot.

This alien species was called the Guardians by the Xindi and they practically worshipped them, considering them saviours.

The Reptilians were firmly behind the development and use of both the probe and the much larger version that would be used to destroy the Earth. In fact they argued against Degra when he approached the Xindi council and offered evidence that the mysterious aliens were lying to them and that the humans were not a threat to their very existence.

The Insectoids could not be convinced and they sided with Reptilians. They would not even consider the possibility that the Guardians had been lying to them. When it appeared that the council might vote in favour of stopping the attack they helped the Reptilians hijack the weapon and deploy it for use.

The Xindi-Primate Degra did some work on the Reptilians power systems for their cruisers. This provided him with crucial knowledge that allowed his weaker ship to attack and destroy one of these vessels when it attacked Enterprise in early 2154.

A coalition of Primates, Arboreals and Aquatics joined forces with the Earth vessel Enterprise and were able to destroy both the super weapon and the threat of the Guardians who were altering the very nature of space within the expanse.

As a result a kind of peace was achieved between the Xindi and Earth. Over the years this relationship has slowly evolved to the point that the Xindi are currently entertaining the idea of becoming members in the Federation.

Government

Six different intelligent species developed on Xindus; one of them, the Xindi-Avians, was believed extinct by the 2150s. The remaining species are bound together by the Xindi Council. Despite mutual distrust and hostility, the five have made every effort to remain united, fearing a second devastating war like the conflict responsible for the loss of their homeworld.

Prior to the destruction of their home world the Xindi did not have a single government. It was only after they lost their home world that they were able to finally form a joint council with 2 members from each of the 5 species having a voice and a vote. This system worked well until they discovered that the Avians had not been wiped out as believed. It took almost 75 years but finally the Avians were convinced to accept a spot on the council and each species now has 3 representatives.

Description

Xindi-Primates are members of the multi-species Xindi race. They were easily the most advanced of the six species, which shared a genetic ancestry.

The Primates, more than any other Xindi species, resemble Humans. They have, like all Xindi, distinctive ridges on their cheek bones. They also have larger foreheads. Like Humans, the Primates have variations in skin tone. They have no eyebrows.

Physiology

The different Xindi species were extremely similar in their functionally-important DNA, sharing over 99.5% despite the apparent physical differences. All the Xindi species shared distinctive ridges on their cheekbones and foreheads.

Psychology

The Primates are seen as honest and trustworthy by other Xindi. However, they are not seen as being very resilient.

They are also considered to be the most intellectual species of Xindi and therefore one of their own, Degra, was assigned to develop the weapon to destroy Earth. However, this intelligence also helped in convincing Degra that the Guardians promises were empty.

Religion

Numerous experts from a wide range of species have been confused by the Xindi religion for many years. The number of unusual contradictions and seeming inconsistencies have left them puzzled and perplexed. First of all is the fact that each species have their own name for their god. Next is the fact that each species perceives that god to be a reflection of their own best qualities. Each species portrays their god as being similar in appearance to them.

What has confused the experts is that all 6 species agree that they all pray to the same god. Furthermore they have never had any hostile disagreements over the many differences between how each species honours their god. They all accept those differences. In fact it is not unusual for Xindi of different species to all use the same temple even if the beliefs, images and ceremonies are nothing like those found in their own temples.

Drazen

The Primates call their version of their god Drazen. His image is that of an intelligent, thoughtful primate. He is always shown to be holding a scroll in one hand and a variety of technical devices in the other.

All their temples are well designed for both comfort and aesthetics. In most cases they have a single large wedge shaped room with a statue or a tapestry hanging at the one corner farthest away from the entrances to the room. Facing this will be long rows of comfortable benches for people to sit on during the services.

Mythology

While the Primates did save almost all of their data files including history and mythology it does not seem to hold much interest to the majority of their population. As a species they are more interested in the future and progress than they are in studying such useless data.

Society

The Primates have a well organized and developed society. Great effort is taken to design communities in such a way as to be efficient, with all the population having access to as many amenities as possible.

The Xindi practically worshipped the Guardians, considering them saviors. Children were taught to revere them and give thanks to them at the end of each day. It was a terrible offense to question a Guardian. Crime is almost unheard of unless it is committed by one of the other Xindi species.

Culture

Of all the Xindi the Primates seem to have the greatest love for the arts. Any and all types seem to be enjoyed by them.

Customs

Before the destruction of Xindus the Primates ruled the other species for eons. This resulted in a certain feeling of superiority that even after all this time is reflected in their customs.

All Primate living spaces have 2 distinct areas. First is that for the owner and his family. This includes kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms, common area and any other rooms for the combined family to use. Next is the reception area. This is the only part of the house where outsiders, non-primates are ever allowed. It will have its own bathroom and may include a dining and common room as well.

In colonies or households where the available space does not allow for this distinction then an outdoor area will be set aside for it or they will simply meet with the non-primate at a local park, dining establishment or other facility.

Non-Primates are never allowed with in the home proper.

Technology

The reason why the Primates were the Xindi species that were selected to develop the super weapon that was to be used to destroy Earth was because they had the most talented engineers.

That fact is still true and as a result they still have the most advanced technology of all the Xindi species.

Economy

The Primates have a well developed and extensive trade system. One that is almost as effective as the Arboreals. However more species seem to prefer to deal with the Arboreals. As a result the Primates often use Arboreals as agents when trying to establish new trade deals.

Military

In 2154, Degra docked with a Xindi-Primate cruiser for a meeting with three members of the Xindi Council. Later the same year, a fleet of Primate and Arboreal ships escorted the NX-class starship Enterprise through their security zone to the Xindi Council planet. Shortly thereafter, the Primate starship was among several which intercepted the Reptilian and Insectoid fleet guarding the Xindi weapon.

Federation Intelligence Files

The Xindi (pronounced ZIN-dee) were an alliance of species who evolved on the same planet in the Delphic Expanse, known as Xindus, whose infamous attack on Earth and attempts to terminate Humans in the early 2150s changed the course of history and initiated the series of events that helped establish United Earth as a major interstellar power.

In the mirror universe, Xindi ships fought in a conflict with the Terran Empire sometime prior to 2155. In the 26th century of an alternate timeline, Xindi served on the USS Enterprise-J during the Battle of Procyon V against the Sphere Builders.
