History

The Vek have a long history of violent religious wars that started approximately 4,700 years ago with the founding of a new mono-religious cult that preached intolerance of other beliefs and a non-negotiable supremacy of their belief which was the one true and only acceptable belief.

For the first 2,000 years these wars were fairly small, the Varakahs being initially a small group which sent out numerous adventurous missionary expeditions. While many of these expeditions were wiped out by other factions, many more survived to found and settle new lands.

As a result even though they had few real successes as a result of their militaristic efforts to expand their religion during this period, by the end of this period they were fairly wide spread with settlements on every major island and continent on the planet. In fact they were one of the largest factions, controlling more land than any other group even though it was wide spread all over the planet.

At this time they entered into a golden age of advancement, development and discovery. This period lasted for almost 250 years before the Varakahs again commented their next series of crusades against the other factions and religions.

Over the next 1,900 years there were a number of these crusades. 23 of them in fact but by the end of the last one the Varakahs were victorious. All of the other religions had been destroyed and completely stamped out. The savagery and sadistic brutality that was used gave a whole new meaning to bloodbath as whole towns would be exterminated right down to the last child and baby in an effort to stamp out the filth of the heretical beliefs.

Approximately 550 years ago the crusades finally ended and peace reigned over the entire world. Prosperity, development and scientific advancement resulted in the discovery of space travel about 300 years after that and warp drives about 50 years after that.

Everything seemed golden for them. The deadly seed of evil had been stamped out, and the glory of Varak seemed to be clothing them in success and heavenly rewards. Then the unthinkable happened. They encountered another alien species the Minnobia.

This was impossible. Varak only created one species the Vek. They were the divine chosen ones. The Minnobia were obviously some kind of plague, a disease that needed to be cleansed from existence and it was their duty to do so. They attacked the Minnobia and a state of war has existed between them since then.

Unfortunately the Vek have since learned that there are many different species in the universe. None of who have been blessed with the divine touch of Varak. All are obviously cursed and will need to either be cleansed from existence or converted by any means necessary.

Government

The Vek have a central government that is actually controlled and governed by their religion. The head of this government is the Primate, the head of the church. Under him are the Carbihi, of which there are 100. These individuals advise and obey the Primate. They form his council and oversee various aspects of the government’s responsibilities but first and foremost are their duties to promote the beliefs in Varak. New Primates are selected from among the Carbihi.

Serving underneath each Carbihi are 100 Biyad who are scattered all over their world. These individuals advise and obey the commands of the Primate as well as their own Carbihi who they hope to one day replace. Serving underneath each Biyad are 100 Duron and underneath each Duron are 100 Pirads whose main duty is the day to day spiritual promotion of their religion.

Description

They have a thick, tough, leathery gray skin with numerous ridges all over their face. A kind of scale affect is still evident on their skin and shows they are descended from reptiles. They have razor sharp teeth, fangs and claws. On average they stand 5'10" to 6'2" with a fit, athletic body.

Physiology

As with most intelligent humanoid species they have a very complex system with specialized organs, and unique hormones, chemicals and enzymes. They are typical humanoids with most of the physical, mental and biological medical problems that seem to plague most humanoids.

Psychology

As with most intelligent species they can and sometimes do suffer from various different types of mental illness. Unfortunately these individuals are considered to have been possessed by the forces of evil and are immediately isolated and eradicated.

Religion

They believe completely in the divine spirit of Varak who created them, their world and the universe around them. His teachings created their government, society, culture, beliefs and out of necessity a militaristic order that served the church through more than 23 crusades.

According to the teachings of Varak, he is the only divine being. All others are in reality demons, beings of incredible evil determined to destroy the universe and all that he created, especially the Vek. They and their creations must be destroyed.

A very small minority also believe that it might be possible to convert and their by save some of these deluded and misguided servants of evil.

Mythology

Any writings, myths, legends or tales that do not support the teachings of Varak have been destroyed, burned and declared illegal. Possession is an automatic admission of guilt and punished by the culprit being burned alive with their illegal heretical writings.

Only those stories that support the teachings and beliefs of Varak have been saved and all of them are considered to be mandatory reading for all citizens. Failure to do so is also considered to be a crime but one that is only punished by 1,000 lashes of a braided whip. Unfortunately this can result in death but is considered to be the judgment of Varak as he will preserve the virtuous and punish the weak.

Society

Every single aspect of their society is controlled and governed by their religion and their beliefs in Varak. As a result they have one of the most religious societies ever recorded by the Federation. Currently that society labors to support their massive military. One that they are continually working to expand, enlarge and improve on.

Culture

Every single aspect of their various forms of artistic expression is centered around their religion. All of their music, statues, paintings and other art forms all display some aspect, story, virtue or other religious connotation.

Customs

As one would expect of a society so controlled by their religious beliefs, every single custom they have, has some form of religious basis. Everything from birth to death, courtship to marriage, even procreation and food.

Technology

They have not yet advanced to the point where they are equal to Federation technology but they are advanced enough that they can pose a serious threat to most of the species they encounter within their region of space.

Economy

They are completely self-sufficient as they refuse to even consider trade with other demon created species. However they have expanded and created a few small colonies and asteroid mining facilities to supply them with much needed raw resources to support their unusually large military force.

Military

They have a massive military structure, one that consumes almost a third of all of their raw resources. With this they have managed to construct 3 enormous orbital shipyards as well as a single gigantic military space station capable of servicing more than a hundred ships at one time and provide repairs to 20 ships at one time.

Their fleet has more than 1,380 ships of all classes. These progress in size from their smallest ship to their biggest. Their various ship classes are frigates, destroyers, light cruisers, cruisers, heavy cruisers, battle cruisers and command cruisers. Added to these are scouts, troop transports, medical ships and missile/torpedo launch ships.

They have a number of religious military orders. Some are more fanatical than others and some have earned a reputation for sheer savagery that would boggle the mind.

Federation Intelligence Files
