Kholev never knew his biological parents. He grew up on an asteroid, controlled by the Orion Syndicate, and had to work in the mines from the age of six. At the age of twelve, he and the other slaves, were liberated by the crew of the USS Gerlache.
He was adopted by one of Gerlache’s science officers named Anton Beaumont who, after the Gerlache ended its six month mission, returned to Earth to teach at the Académie des Sciences in Paris.
He decided very early on to devote his life and career to Starfleet. It was his way of showing gratitude to the men and women of the Gerlache who had risked their lives to save him from a life of slavery.
Though he probably won’t admit it to anyone, deep down he hopes to one day find other members of his family and, if he is really lucky, perhaps even his biological parents.
